The Bulls have set in motion their rotation policy in considering their squad to take on the Waratahs at Loftus, Pretoria on Saturday.

Official Media release from the Bulls:

Derick Kuün will start as openside for the Vodacom Bulls for the first time in three years when they take on the Waratahs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Kuün, who moved back from the hooker position where he played Super Rugby in 2008 and 2009, last played on the side of the scrum for the Bulls in the final of the 2007 competition.

He replaces the regular number six, Deon Stegmann, as part of Bulls coach, Frans Ludeke’s, rotational policy in a move that also sees Danie Rossouw starting at eight and centurion Pedrie Wannenburg again wearing the number seven jersey.

Rossouw is fit again after a neck strain prevented him from a start against the Brumbies and will replace Pierre Spies, who is still recovering from a knock to the knee suffered in that game.

“We are losing a lot of fire power with Pierre not available as he is one of our main ball carriers. But luckily we have someone similar with Danie, who also carries the ball very well and is fit again”, Ludeke said of this move.

Flip van der Merwe, who replaced Rossouw a week ago, retains his place after a strong showing against the Brumbies.

Dewald Potgieter will make his first appearance off the bench after recovering from the knee injury that prevented earlier participation.

Ludeke left his back line unchanged, although Jaco van der Westhuyzen might replace John Mametsa, providing that his clearance papers from his Japanese club, NEC Green Rockets, arrive on time.

With regards to the Waratahs, Ludeke said that he expecting another tough onslaught.

“I thought Bryan Habana was the only difference between them and the Stormers last weekend, with his brilliance taking the game away from the Waratahs. They have a international front row and a massive pack, but the Bulls also have world class players, so we will be ready.”

Captain Victor Matfield again committed his side to play positive rugby.

“We will continue to try and score tries. We scored from 70% of the attacking line-outs we forced on the Brumbies and will continue to look for those opportunities.”

The team is (with number of Super 14 caps): 15. Zane Kirchner (29), 14. Gerhard van den Heever (6), 13. Stephan Dippenaar (4), 12. Wynand Olivier (59), 11. Francois Hougaard (6), 10. Morné Steyn (61), 9. Fourie du Preez (87, v/c), 8. Danie Rossouw (90), 7. Pedrie Wannenburg (100), 6. Derick Kuün (44), 5. Victor Matfield (97, c), 4. Flip vd Merwe (8), 3. Werner Kruger (30), 2. Gary Botha (61), 1. Gurthrö Steenkamp (54). Replacements: 16. Bandise Maku (10), 17. Bees Roux (19), 18. Deon Stegmann (27), 19. Dewald Potgieter (19), 20. Heini Adams (31), 21. Jacques-Louis Potgieter (20), 22. John Mametsa (5) or Jaco van der Westhuyzen (47).

59 – Super, GBS is asleep he wont mind. My neighbour goes every year to the Kruger and only puts on tabard. Says that works well. Then he goes in the winter months when it is dry. So suppose less mozzies then and not so much a threat to get Malaria.

I want to go sometime again. Used to go every year. Now have not been for a long time. The client I was speaking to today said he just goes to Grasskop (spelling) stays there then goes into the Kruger during the day. That way has not hassle at all about catching Malaria as Grasskop is higher than the Kruger. So that is a thought, but I love hearing the animals at night. That is the great part of going to the bush.

superBul are we encouraged to drink gin? Fantastic……No so keen on the sprays etc but if you think they work!!

    Mozzies just LOVE me….

Don’t forget Rugby talk is for rugby lovers to talk rugby and when that is done we can chat about everything else…!!

Think it is written into the constitution!! 😀

61 – Carol, If you go to Oz again, go from Port Douglas so much nicer than Cairns. Lots of little pubs and restaurants there. Lovely place. Though nothing beats Cape Town but in THE SUMMER NOT THE WINTER. Also nice to snorkel in Mauritius.

No come and do a bush walk, that is the real thing.

On that last holiday i had in the Klaserie Private Nature reserve we arrived on the morning when the game ranger had to shoot a elephant bull storming his guests.

He saw this elephant too late or the elephant saw them first, it was n bull in must and it charged them, he asked his assistant to take the guests away and he then jumped up and down to attract the bull towards him. Luckily the elephant went for him and left the guests alone.

he was forced to shoot. It was a good shot and the elephant fell almost on his feet.

65 – Not for me. Hear wont handle that. In the game parks here they have what we call camps. It is fenced off from the wild life. Much safer. The Baboons get in though. Some have small kitchens on the veranda and you have to keep them closed with a lock. Otherwise they raid it all. Wild baboons in Cape Point too. They used to be on Table Mountain but they have cleared them off there now. Years back I climeb up table mountain to have a young baboon jump on my back. Looked up and saw the mother, lucky the young one jumped off and ran away. The mother followed the young baboom. I was young then and my heart almost stopped. They can be dangerous.

Now number 14, 17 and 25 on our 6N superbru wants to give each other advice, quite comical.

  • 71

Puma, I was a poor backpacker so restaurants did not really feature much, it was more campfires outside the VW Combie!!

However I will note your recommentation for next time! 🙂

  • 72

68 – Super, that is something I have always wanted to do is a bush walk with a ranger. Just never got around to it. Now with the bad knees, and lower back wont do that. Don’t you have to sleep over in tents?

  • 73

superBul, I would love to do a bushwalk. I also have a brochure that does riding holidays through game parks in South Africa.
You have to be a decent rider to go….WRS rides well, trying to get him interested!! What a way to see wildlife from the back of a horse.

As for superbru, I need all thge help I can get!!

71 – Carol, There were backpackers places in Port Douglas plenty of them. I stayed in a hotel though but noticed plenty of those backpacker places. Lovely beach there but the crocs go on the beach and they have lethal jelly fish there. They are seasonal so we were there in September month (best month as it is tropical and no rain in September, other months it could be a wash out cause of the rain) anyhow you don’t get those jelly fish on the beach that time of year. Never saw the crocs on the beach though. Just was warned about them.

    Puma….Get a horse!! 😀

  • 76

Puma in Cairns I slept in a non air con dorm with 60 other females…..It was hell in a rucksack!!

  • 77

    70 – Super 😆

I went almost to the bottom of the 6Nations cause I supported Ireland against France in France. Irish Devil told me to go with France but I never listened… Like with my Sharks team always going with the heart and not the mind.

  • 78

76 – Carol, No that would never do me 😀

75 – Carol, Would never be able to ride a horse now with my bad back. I was a good rider. Used to go most weekends when I was a teenager. Well not that was moons back….hahaha. Probably would fall of it now..hehe.

I played golf one day at Hans Merensky in Phalaborwa, i was fanatic about golf and started early on my own. This golf course runs all along the Kruger National Park. Baboons came back from raiding the gardens in Phalaborwa town and crossed a fairway at the time when i drove my ball of the tee, i had to walk through them and took out my driver and walked on. One big male decided to bark at me, i promptly showed him the driver in my hand. The bloody thing took that as a challenge and showed of his teeth , i nearly died right there. Those teeth are big, much bigger when he is only 10 meters from you with his mouth wide open.

Well i thought come you bloody donner i will drive you past the clubhouse. But the problem was that all others join in and attack together. Lucky for me nothing happened because they knew they must get back into the KNP. Needless to say my golf was piss poor after that scare.

  • 81

I see I am not last on RT 6N Superbru……Puma, you can get your revenge on me this weekend!!

Just saw your baboon story, missed it just now……Was the little chap after your packed lunch?

  • 82

    80 – super…..Bwahahahahahah Good one…..

You would not want to damage your best club would you!!!

  • 83

80 – Super, That was funny, had a good laugh there. Those baboons are dangerous. Their canine teeth are huge, could slice us up in no time. Then if they come at you in packs you have not chance. You with your driver would have had no chance. Lucky nothing happened.

81 – Yip, Carol had a back pack on my back at the time it jumped onto that. Probably wanted it but it was the young one and eventually just jumped off my back and ran away. Lucky as the mother was right there and would have attacked me. She ran after her young one so I was SAVED…..HAHA. NEVER climbed table mountain again. That was the 2nd time I climbed the mountain but the first time saw baboons on my way up. They not there anymore seemed to have cleared them off the mountain. You do still see them at Cape Point though.

Where Super was playing golf you see plenty, plenty there. They can be dangerous.

  • 84

OK have to feed WRS now, great to chat Super and Puma…..

Catch you tomorrow, have a good evening and Lekker Slaap

  • 85

It was so ruddy cold the day I was at Cape Point there was not a monkey to be seen, they were sheltering in their caves!! 🙁

arol you better be a bloody good rider if you try a horse trail in the big 5 area. No ways will you make it here. There is a lot of horse trail lodges here but there is no predators or big 5 animals on those farms.

Here is another ride you could do but according to people i spoke to it is not comfortable. Elephant back safari. There is one for you Puma.

  • 87

85 – Carol, You came at the wrong time. The weather there now is beautiful. Also in Umhlanga but very hot and humid. Hot here in Joburg too. This is the hottest month in South Africa. April in Umhlanga until June is just BLISS best months.

Cheers Carol, was really good to chat tonight. Had some good laughs.

  • 88

Elephant back Safari? Sounds great but them too not sure if I would get up on one of those big guys… Would be awesome though.

Okay that is me out of here now Super. Great chatting tonight. Love the wild life. Enjoyed your and Carols company.

At least there was one good moment for Berrick Barnes and his former Reds teammates when they were thrashed 92-3 by the Bulls in the oxygen-starved high altitude of Loftus Versfeld three years ago. ”We were leading 3-0, so it was a good start – it was just the 92 points after that,” said Barnes, who will play the Bulls at home again on Saturday as a Waratah.
