The Sharks will consider loose forward acquisition Willem Alberts for their friendly matches next week and challenge SA Rugby to change the regulation prohibiting this.
The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) and the Sharks are currently in a contractual dispute about the services of Alberts and his former Lions team-mate Louis Ludik. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has already indicated that it will not step in to resolve the matter.
Alberts and Ludik have still not received clearance certificates from the GLRU and SARU’s regulations prevent players from turning out for the Sharks while they are registered at the Lions.
However, Sharks chief executive Brian van Zyl expressed his disappointment on Wednesday that SARU did not want to step in to resolve the dispute.
He said that the Sharks would not hesitate considering Alberts for next week’s friendly matches against the Western Force and Stormers, even if Alberts may not be available because of his honeymoon.
Ludik is still recovering from a knee injury and will only be able to play in February again.
“We would like to resolve the matter. I think it’s rather a matter of SA Rugby having to revisit their regulations. It’s disappointing that they do not want to get involved,” he said.
He does not believe that arbitration, which may ultimately be necessary to settle the dispute, will keep Alberts and Ludik off the field.
“There was already arbitration in the Jaque Fourie case and the documentation is there for all to see,” he said.
Johannesburg – The contractual dispute between the Lions and Sharks about who has the right to pick Willem Alberts and Louis Ludik is threatening to turn into a crisis for the players and the teams.
However, SARU legal manager Christo Ferreira ruled out the notion that the governing body would get involved.
“Our regulations state that a player may not play for a new province in a friendly game or competition prior to being released by his previous union,” said Ferreira.
In fact, it may be months before Alberts and Ludik can play if the dispute is not resolved soon.
The South African Rugby Union (SARU) said on Tuesday that the players may not play for the Sharks until they have received clearance certificates from the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU). This includes friendly fixtures, as well as the Super 14.
Ludik is still injured, but this ruling will prevent Alberts from playing for the Sharks in the Neo Africa Tri-Series friendlies against the Western Force and Stormers in Cape Town next week.
Where is King Solomons wisdom?
58 – Hi Hugs, long time no speak…..Did you catch those poachers the other night? Sounded all very tense!
Pearl Rose is OK, just likes to have a dig at some of us now and again!!
60 – Playing on it now!! I must do some stuff here soon….5 more minutes on my toy, then I will work!
No unfortunetly not, how are you enjoying your new toy, does it work differently from a desktop, remember i wouldnt know, my laptop is the first computer i ever even touched.
Am suppossed to start feeding now, but wanted a quick read on the computer, can only get the latest page if i read on the phone but can get all the pages on voldy and other sites.
This thing is just plain silly. To tell the truth, it would be nice to have these players, but our success does not depend on them being at the Sharks. So F.off to the Lions, we don’t really give a shit either way.
64 – TH
I noticed the same thing. When i log on with my phone and a story has 53 posts, i’m really anoyed. Then i can only catch the latest back at home or the office.
Hi Snoekie, i am so glad to here that it is not just me. 🙂
Ek wonder hoe oupa Stefan se bene gaan hou hierdie jaar?
TH – Have you joined on FB?
I tried to join, but experience problems with the connection. I think i’m there, but can’t get on to make sure.
Snoek i wouldnt know how to join Facebook, friends keep asking me and they say it is easy but hvent tried, when you figure it out let me know.
72 – I am on facebook, and to tell you the truth, i hardly go there. I have joined RT on FB though, and will go check what’s happening there from time to time.
Frankly i dont know what Facebook is even for, told friends if they want to chat they know where i live or know my cell number, i can understand if you have friends or family overseas but then there is that other chat thingie. They tell me to get with the times i reply why the times is chit, like it backward and laidback.
I loved to know why our rugby body doesnt want to get involved with this Sharks Lions fiasco, would have thought that it was part of their job description to sort out issues between different clubs.
Well since i am talking to myself, i will tell any one that is interested about a really sick sicko.
There is a man(a educated moff) whos property borders mine who says he is going to get a dead monkey chop the whole thing up, make a soup and pour it around his half acre mielei patch casuse he thins it will stop my troop from raiding.
This is a wealthy bloke not some poor farmer that makes a liveing off the land, was on friendly terms with him until he came to the house to tell me this. Needless to say i am no longer on friendly terms with his and have been keeping a wary eye on his labour when they alon the border with the properties incase they laying snares to catch a monkey and if he does he will be prosecuted. Ok have got that off my chest, has been bugging me.
Strafskop, welkom op R-T… ek is bly jy doen jou Profile ding…. goooooooooi mieliessssssss!
Hallo Almal,
