The Sharks will consider loose forward acquisition Willem Alberts for their friendly matches next week and challenge SA Rugby to change the regulation prohibiting this.

The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) and the Sharks are currently in a contractual dispute about the services of Alberts and his former Lions team-mate Louis Ludik. The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has already indicated that it will not step in to resolve the matter.

Alberts and Ludik have still not received clearance certificates from the GLRU and SARU’s regulations prevent players from turning out for the Sharks while they are registered at the Lions.

However, Sharks chief executive Brian van Zyl expressed his disappointment on Wednesday that SARU did not want to step in to resolve the dispute.

He said that the Sharks would not hesitate considering Alberts for next week’s friendly matches against the Western Force and Stormers, even if Alberts may not be available because of his honeymoon.

Ludik is still recovering from a knee injury and will only be able to play in February again.

“We would like to resolve the matter. I think it’s rather a matter of SA Rugby having to revisit their regulations. It’s disappointing that they do not want to get involved,” he said.

He does not believe that arbitration, which may ultimately be necessary to settle the dispute, will keep Alberts and Ludik off the field.

“There was already arbitration in the Jaque Fourie case and the documentation is there for all to see,” he said.

Johannesburg – The contractual dispute between the Lions and Sharks about who has the right to pick Willem Alberts and Louis Ludik is threatening to turn into a crisis for the players and the teams.

However, SARU legal manager Christo Ferreira ruled out the notion that the governing body would get involved.

“Our regulations state that a player may not play for a new province in a friendly game or competition prior to being released by his previous union,” said Ferreira.

In fact, it may be months before Alberts and Ludik can play if the dispute is not resolved soon.

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) said on Tuesday that the players may not play for the Sharks until they have received clearance certificates from the Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU). This includes friendly fixtures, as well as the Super 14.

Ludik is still injured, but this ruling will prevent Alberts from playing for the Sharks in the Neo Africa Tri-Series friendlies against the Western Force and Stormers in Cape Town next week.

Where is King Solomons wisdom?

However I am definitely a Sharks man!!

31: Asbak, dit was soos vaskop sê, oom Louis se ‘weapon of mass destruction’ – ‘take no prisoners’ – ‘no more mr. Nice Guy’.

Hy is eergister opgeneem.

Mev.

A small zoo in (C)Ape Town acquired a very rare species of gorilla. Within a few weeks the gorilla, a female, became very difficult to handle. Upon examination the vet discovered the problem. The gorilla was in season.

To make matters worse there was no male gorilla available.

Pondering over their problem the zoo-keeper thought of Ashley, a local lad and part-time worker responsible for cleaning the animal cages.

Ashley, like many of the WP men-folk, had little sense but possessed ample ability to satisfy a female of any species. The zoo-keeper thought they might have a solution.

Ashley was approached with a proposition. Would he be willing to mate with the gorilla for R5000? Ashley showed some interest but said he would have to think the matter over carefully.

The following day he announced that he would accept their offer, but only under 4 conditions:

“First”, Ashley said “I’m not going to kiss her on the lips!” The keeper quickly agreed to this condition.

“Second”, he said, “You can never tell anybody about this.” The keeper again readily agreed to this condition.

“Third” said Ashley “I want all the babies raised as WP supporters.” Once again it was agreed.

“Fourth and last of all, Ashley said, “You’ll need to give me another week to come up with the R5000.”

    Notice:

    Slow internet problems being experienced.

There is a latency issue between South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. This is due to an underwater sea cable problem.

Please note that all network providers/ISP’s across the board are currently being affected.

There is currently no ETA as to when the issue will be solved. I will continue to give you updates throughout the day.

    Slow International Browsing
The issues experienced are related to a suspected cable break on the SAIX network. Traffic is being re-routed via the US which is causing up to 50% packet loss as well as poor latency.

SAIX (South African Internet Exchange) engineers are working on resolving the issue.

Customers will experience slow connectivity to international web sites and services. SAIX engineers are investigating further.

GBS -Pearl Rose – Well when asked on Voldy the other day who he was, he said he used to read Keo before he started posting.

Well he is VERY familiar with you!!

With ref to the underwater cable issue, Voldy has just fallen over on me!! 😉

  • 55

Surely if the Lions wanted money for these players and were entitled to it the Sharks would pay it, maybe they are not entitled to it and thats why the Sharkks wont pay up.

The fact that they say they no longer want these players but wont give their release papers is actually pathetic.

  • 56

Really dont think a pro outfit like the Sharks would jeopardize everything by not paying transfer money.

  • 57

54@ Carol – Well, at least I warn you bloggers about the slowness of the Internet… I’m always in the loop about this type of issue due to my working environment.

There is nothing we can do… it’s not a Rugby-Talk issue… it is an international networking issue.

  • 58

GBS think Pearlrose is the guy that got me to post a comment on voldy for the first time cause he was haveing a go at carol for no reason.

  • 59
