View dismissal AJ Strauss* c Amla b Steyn 0 1 1 0 0 0.00
0.1 gone! What an incredible start! A back-of-a-length delivery on the pads, Strauss played with an angled bat to deflect the ball into the leg-side, but Hashim Amla, under the lid at backward short leg, swooped superbly with his right hand, and clung onto a blinder! 0/1
View dismissal AN Cook lbw b Morkel 21 49 31 2 0 67.74
9.4 a review coming up, as Cook is given out lbw … it could be marginal … He took a while to ponder the option, but it seemed to the naked eye to be quite high, and potentially outside leg… this is absolutely crucial … and there are so many permutations. No inside-edge, but surely that was a no-ball! Perhaps there is a fraction of leather behind the line … either way, it’s been given! 39/4
View dismissal IJL Trott lbw b Morkel 5 8 8 1 0 62.50
1.6 full length, loose on-drive, that’s plumb! The end of a bewildering innings from Trott, who swished at anything that moved, and eventually played across the line to a full-length delivery 7/2
View dismissal KP Pietersen c Parnell b Morkel 7 26 16 1 0 43.75
7.5 good grief, another one bites the dust, and it’s the debutant Wayne Parnell at mid-on! Back of a length, Pietersen climbs into a full-blooded pull, but he doesn’t time it properly and Parnell is on hand to intercept. 32/3
View dismissal PD Collingwood c Duminy b McLaren 47 104 61 5 2 77.04
30.3 squared up, a leading edge, and that’s caught at point! A massive breakthrough and that is McLaren’s first in Tests. Smith’s hunch has paid off, just enough nibble off the deck to turn a regulation nurdle off the pads into a muffed false shot, and Duminy leans forward to collect a lobbed opportunity! 115/5
View dismissal IR Bell b Steyn 35 125 86 6 0 40.69
37.4 castled! And that is exceptional bowling. Steyn has been swinging everything away, and this one zips back off the deck, through the gate, and into the stumps! High quality fast bowling, and there’s very little that Bell could have done about that 133/6
View dismissal MJ Prior c †Boucher b Steyn 14 45 25 2 0 56.00
39.1 England collapsing here! Prior gone! Short ball, Prior tries to pull it away but it catches the gloves and goes slowly though to Boucher. Easy catch and South Africa are all over England here. “So much for your quiet hour,” says Miller. 136/7
View dismissal SCJ Broad c Morkel b Kallis 13 18 13 2 0 100.00
40.5 gone this time! One shot too many perhaps. Back of a length, straight into Broad and he flaps it, needlessly really, in the air to mid off. Hit, hope and fail. 148/8
View dismissal GP Swann c †Boucher b Steyn 27 43 27 3 1 100.00

Sportfederasies moet sélf daaroor besluit as hul kleure moet verander.

“Dit sal so bly.”

Broad to Steyn, no run, back on off stump, Steyn prods. So effectively that it has brought the declaration

  • 784

Finally we declare. Would be great now to take a wicket or 3 before close.

    Go Proteas.

  • 785

Lets hope Steyn comes out firing.. Still think Morkel will be a real hand ful with his bounce on this pitch..

  • 786

780 – Winston, Yip only joking there. I go for one sometimes myself mate.

  • 787

Boucher reached his 5000th run today, he is one of our all time greats, thats for sure.

  • 788

I still find the best afternoon nap is always on christmas day after being so full from christmas lunch..

  • 789

Well if Gilchrist he’d be thought of as probably one of the greatest keeper batsman of all time..

  • 790

788 – Winston think for all of us that is the best nap. Think we all over eat on Christmas day. Well I do..haha.

Okay going to watch the rest of the crici. Back later all.

  • 791

6/1. Come on Morkel, thought you were going to bowl well this afternoon, now lets get Pieterson and BoringWood out..

  • 792

2 down,Trott looked like he was going to get out any ball.. What a nice boo for Pietersen, think he is due for runs though. Steyn and Morkel are proving the be the next big thing as an opening pair, just need Parnell to come to the party..

  • 793

Nice bowling by Steyn and Morkel , that bouncer of Steyn would have hit a poorer batsman straight in the middle of the eyes

  • 794

You see this is my argument,if we declared 45 mins earlier,we could have had them 4 down by the close but anyway..

  • 795

This is in our favor , this stop start story.

  • 796

WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO. YES, 3 wickets down. Just what I thought could happen. Go Proteas. Should win this easy. Hoping that Collingwood and Bell don’t stand there forever and ever. So far all good.

  • 797

794 – Winston, Exactly. Well for now we have 3 down going to plan so far. Hope we get another one before close.

  • 798

For sure,if you offered me 3 by the close of play today I would have taken it.. But just think we need to be more positive going forward. Am glad Parnell got his first wicket, lets hope he gets his act together and plays many more test matches..

  • 799

Well that is it for today. Bad light. 3 out. Now need to get them quick tomorrow. Take KP early otherwise he will stay in forever. So far this series he has been dreadful, may that continue….. 😆

  • 800

798 – Winston, I feel if we had Parnell in the Durbs test he would have made a difference there. That pitch suited his style of bowling well. Pity.

Anyhow 3 down that is good. Must get KP quick tomorrow morning. Also don’t allow Collingwood to just block for the whole day. Make him play.

  • 801

Out of here now. Back tomorrow.

Hope we bowl really well and the weather holds out.

  • 802

    Great snakes… 3 wickets down…. awesome

(Oh and by the way, this Omie did not go have a “middagslapie”… this Omie is seeing clients.. and working here at his Omie-Office)

  • 803

802 – Ja, Ja, that is what you say Omie……hehe.

Told you GBS, we had to declare. Winston and I were right boeta. See 3 wickets down. Might have been 4 by now. Well we will take the 3 and be happy. Just need to get em quick tomorrow, don’t let them settle down and just block the whole day.

Okay now out of here. Back tomorrow. Jeepers this thread now 802 posts. Tomorrrow we make it over a 1000!! 😀

  • 804

    sorry typo. Tomorrow.

  • 805

Yeah, unless it rains for two days non stop we’ll win this test.. No way England will escape again.. Be good chatting to you all, take care. Catch up tomorrow 🙂

  • 806

The Proteas declared at the right time…. we have 2 full days left to get 7 wickets.

Surly one day should even be enough on this pitch and I cannot see with the weather and all that we’ll lose more than one full day’s cricket

  • 807

If England lose they are going to whine for months about the Smith volume issue, and not how badly they batted and that even the rain could not save them.

  • 808

Need to get Pietersen out quick

  • 809

Both Kolliehond & “The Verraaier” needs to be gotten out quickly early in play tomorrow, they cannot be left to settle and occupy the crease

  • 810

    Morning rugby and cricket talkers.

See overcast at the Wanderers. Should be good for batting BUT if that damn rain comes could spoil it for us.

Need to bowl really well this morning and try and have them out before the rain comes.

    Go Proteas.
