Never saw our game against Fiji was out. Score was close but a loss is a loss. Our Boks 7’s are not doing well at all.

Well done to ABs another win for them. This is where we were last year.

Congrats to England too in beating us. Phew!!! Blitz Bokke need a wake up call.

About the Rugby , i never took the 7s serious, did not even mention it in my list of achievements this year. But something is clear the All Black are coming back with vengeance.

Went to see Invictus last night. Must say the rugby parts did not look authentic. First the size of the Bok squad, they were shown running & practicing a number of times. The squad portrayed could not have been more than 15-18 players. The smallest RWC squad on record? All the players looked to have a similar height – what no locks on this team? Matt Damon did not match up to Pienaar physically. I read somewhere that Pienaar was 204 lbs & 6’4″. Damon looked like the height of his wife. One player in the Bok squad I swear looked like a middle aged, out of condition, old chap. Where did they pick up these players? Some of them would perhaps qualify under the term “burly”. Surely there were legitimate Saffa players available to the director. The simulation of matches was poor quality too, everything was very slow. The rucks looked like my high school team, on a bad day. Everyone standing around or leaning on the ruck. Poor old Jonah Lomu (gthe film version) looked over weight except when they showed actual footage of him playing. Anyone know who was advising Clint Eastwood on the rugby aspects of this movie? I’ve seen many films where NFL football is portrayed & they looked much more authentic.

Despite all this I enjoyed the movie. Any comments on how authentic the rest of the movie was? I remember watching the actual final. A great game, the ABs were relentless but the Boks were simply defiant on the day & refused to be beaten. 🙂

Chester Williams was in charge of the rugby for the director.
    Say no more!!

    100 – Jim,

If the rugby parts never looked real then it is disappointing. I kinda knew they would not get it right with Matt Damon being so much smaller than Pienaar.

You are right, we have so many rugby players here they could have filled in for the rugby scenes. Kinda silly of Eastwood not to have done that. Maybe only the rugby playing countries will know. Americans they don’t play much rugby union. Well they do but not to the extent of the rugby playing countries. So most of them wont take too much notice of that part. For us though it will be disappointing for the rugby to look like school boy stuff when it was not. Especially a final played between Boks and ABs.

I do hope they get the accent right. Just about all the movies made in America about SA they never get the accent right. I just cringe when I hear some actors trying to put on our accent and getting it totally wrong. Then I suppose this movie is made for America and what do they know? They probably think the rugby and accent is fine.

I have South African friends living in the States. When they saw the movie Blood Diamond they told me the accent was spot on by LdC. When I went to see the movie thought what the heck!!! He only got the accent right in parts. So even South Africans living away for so long forget the SA accent proper.

Still looking forward to seeing the movie. Going on Wednesday to see it. Public holiday here.

Has anyone seen the NZ version of Invictus ?
I believe that in their version the main story is about Suzie and she is played by either Casper the ghost or Big foot.
Anyone seen it ? Any further information.
    🙂

Guess what? Invicus is not released in Britain until 5th February……THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY 2010……

It will be past history by the time I get to see it!! 🙁
