View dismissal GC Smith* run out (Cook) 75 256 186 9 0 40.32
58.2 from Onions, Huge mix up between the batsmen! Smith dropped into the off side, and de Villiers, Pietersen-esque, ran down the wicket at him. Smith started to run, hesitated, turned around and Cook ran in to take the bails off, just beating Smith’s dive. 166/4
View dismissal AG Prince c Swann b Anderson 2 8 5 0 0 40.00
2.1 Anderson strikes early! Classic opening wicket, just back of a length, moved a touch away from Prince as he tried to defend off the back foot. It bounced a little more than he expected and ended up fencing, off the shoulder of the bat, to Graeme Swann at third slip. 3/1
View dismissal HM Amla lbw b Broad 2 35 22 0 0 9.09
9.4 massive blow! The fullest delivery of the match so far, and arguably of Broad’s entire tour, as Amla plants his front foot and doesn’t even ponder wasting a review on that one. HawkEye shows that that would have hit middle and leg two-thirds up, and England are on fire 10/2
View dismissal JH Kallis c Collingwood b Swann 75 197 132 7 0 56.81
55.3 got him! That has come out of nowhere, pushed across him, like so many balls before, but this time it gets the outside edge and goes, slightly gently, to Collingwood at slip! Crucial breakthrough 160/3
View dismissal AB de Villiers c †Prior b Broad 50 149 98 6 0 51.02
88.2 Broad does the trick! Full length, where all the magic happens, and swinging away a touch outside off, de Villiers goes for an expansive drive but nicks it through to Prior. England really needed that. 269/7
View dismissal JP Duminy lbw b Onions 4 9 9 0 0 44.44
60.1 gone! This time it’s dead straight, swinging back at Duminy from that good length which Onions pursues, no uncertainty from the umpire. Onions really deserves that, he has bowled well all day 170/5
View dismissal MV Boucher lbw b Swann 39 72 50 5 0 78.00
77.1 well, well, we have a review coming up … and it’s looking good for England … Swann straightened one from round the wicket, Boucher got in a good stride, but the ball clearly struck pad before bat, and HawkEye suggests it would have hit middle two-thirds of the way up. And that’s out! 233/6
View dismissal M Morkel lbw b Swann 23 87 49 2 0 46.93
95.6 well, that you have to say was coming. Morkel was bamboozled for five deliveries, and this one finally pins him in front of off. He calls for the review, but it’s a futile gesture. That struck him on the shin, and that is curtains 285/9
View dismissal PL Harris lbw b Swann 2 15 12 0 0 16.66
91.5 We have a review, very full and Harris is sweeping rather clumsily, he misses and is rapped him on the pads. Given out but Harris calls for a review. He may think he’s hit it but replays don’t suggest that. Pitched in line, and hitting, and given out 280/8
View dismissal DW Steyn c †Prior b Anderson 47 66 58 3 3 81.03

    Afternoon everyone.

Prince gone. Why is he opening? Should come in at 5. WASTED to open.

Think GS should have bowled first too. Never bat first at Kingsmead if the weather not going to be good the first and 2nd day. Think we are sitting ducks now unless a batsman or two get a 100 or more like Bell and Cook done.

Hello Snoek, Agree we need GS and Amla or Kallis to get a ton. Probably need all 3 of them to get a ton actually.

This is not good, we could lose by more than an Innings….. fark…. there is no way SA can win now, so runs are unimportant…. wickets are what matters… and we arealready two down the stupid drain!

  • 434

    Hi Puma.

Snoek i rate GS highly as a player and a captain. I know a lot of people dont but i would like to know who they think will do a better job, because there is no one right now.

  • 435

Snoek, Think that is us done. Will have to think about the Newlands test. Why GS batted first at Kingsmead when the first day was forecast for rain and the 2nd. Was crazy. We sitting ducks for sure. Unless we have another hero like JP and Steyn done for us at Melbourne last year.

  • 436

Swann has got 2 wickets for 6 runs in 2.2 overs.

The spinner will win this one for England.

    Carol will be happy.

  • 437

Puma you lucky you got 3G i only have edge or gprs out here where i live. So i actually dont know how fast a computer is supposed to send and receive stuff.

  • 438

434 – Hello Treehugs, I rate GS highly too. Just have no idea why he decided to bat first when the weather forecast was for rain the first two days? Makes it more difficult for batting. We should have bowled first. Also Ntini should not be in this side. He is well, well past his best. Prince should be coming in at 5 where he would play far, far better. Wasted opening. Amla gone too so not really sure who should open.

Still very overcast here but they were batting well there this morning. Then they were well in and we still finding ourselves here. Think we could lose by a innings here. Also last test Ntini should NEVER have bowled that last over when De Wet was on fire. He probably should have had another go here but I would have selected Parnell for this test. Gets plenty swing and would have been suited for Kingsmead.

  • 439

    435 – Puma

Unfortunately I see a SA cricket choke coming up. Would be awesome if we can save this one, but it won’t happen easily.

  • 440

437 – Treehugs normally use adsl but my pc has crashed so using my daugthers lap top for now with my 3g connection. VERY slow.

  • 441

How much do we need to win ? isnt two hundred and something, cause if thats the case its not impossible but a draw would be satisfactory.

  • 442

    437 – TH

Are you staying on the South Pole?

  • 443

439 – Snoek, Plenty wind picking up here in Umhlanga. So it must be down there at Kingsmead. Remember JP also got 3 wickets so it must be good for the spinners there. That is why Parnell should have played too. He is not a spinner but gets plenty swing when he bowls. Even J. Boycott can not believe we played Ntini again when he is out of form. He thought we should have given De Wet another go after his great performance last week. Also said or Parnell.

  • 444

    441 – TH

We need 232 to pass there first innings score, but they have a full inings to bat left.

So if we get bowled out for 250, they need 18 to win the test.

  • 445

Puma unfortunatly i agree about Ntini, hopeing he would do well but you have throw in the towel sometime and maybe now is a good time. I rate Prince, i think he is better than no 5 in a test maybe he should come in at 3 but not open. He can stay in for a long time when he sets his mind to it. But my knowledge is not that great just an opinion.

  • 446

    Puma

I understand that the 3 for 82 that Duminy got was the best bowling figures for a South African in Durban since re-admission.

    Strange fact that.

  • 447

To many SA players strugling for form at the moment. Prince, Duminy, Amla, Ntini, Steyn and Harris.

  • 448

Snoek – Chit didnt know they still had an innings, have not been watching today to busy and 😆 not the South Pole midlands Natal in the bush. Advantage being my neighbours have their own game farm so i stand in my garden everyday and look at their Giraff, wildebeast etc etc. Can walk to the end of my property and watch their zebra grazeing next to my horses on the other side of the game fence so i have some advantages.

“Congrats to Swanny on his 50th and 51st wickets in 2009, second behind Mitchell Johnson (61). Could Swanny conceivably be elevated in the order in a second innings T20 slog for victory, make 48no and join Johnson (500 runs) as the only pair to do the 500 run / 50 wkt calendar year double?”
