England have named an unchanged side from the one that clung on for a draw at Centurion, meaning reprieves for Ian Bell and Alastair Cook, and still no-one in the history of Test cricket to boast Luke as a first name.
England 1 Andrew Strauss (capt), 2 Alastair Cook, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Paul Collingwood, 6 Ian Bell, 7 Matt Prior (wk), 8 Stuart Broad, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 James Anderson, 11 Graham Onions.
Toss news(no not GBS toothache) South Africa will bat first after Graeme Smith won the toss. The pitch, according to the three wise man in the middle, will suit the batsmen but with a touch of dampness and humidity it may do a little early on.
The sides have agreed to use the floodlights if and when the bad light draws in towards the end of the day. An enlightened decision, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Morning Super, Damn they said it was going to be difficult out there this morning for batting. Just hope we can now stand firm for a about the next 10 overs or so. Otherwise they get us out cheap by the time they come in that pitch going to be a real good batting wicket. We will then probably struggle to get them out. So GS needs and the other batsmen need to bat really well today. Bide their time for the next 10 or so overs.
Already we one wicket down.
Puma i would have bowled, but i am not SA captain, ne. One down already.
Think Amla should open with GS and let Prince bat a bit down the order. Maybe at 5. He is a very good batsman and think somehow we are wasting him to open.
Amla for me is looks better suited to open. My feeling.
9 – Super,
Ja, just heard them speaking for the start that it was going to be very difficult to face any bowlers on that pitch. So we need to vaybyt and hold our heads for the next 10 or maybe 15 overs and then we will be well in. Think it will then turn in our favour and be better for batting.
Very humid here today and hot. The longer we keep them out there in that humidity it will take the toll on their batsmen. We need to bat smart now.
meant vasbyt.
Super, I would have started with De Wet today too and dropped Ntini. Why drop a bowler that almost won us the last test? Ntini has served SA well for many years. He is just not doing it anymore. Too slow now. Otherwise if De Wet was not a option, then they should have definitely played Parnell instead of Ntini, he gets plenty swing too.

The critics say that we are racist if we want to drop Ntini.
Pure on merit there is no place for Ntini, he is not fearsome anymore, he has become a very good stock bowler. Yes with so much talent around in the fast category he is in there to please some and there for sentimental purposes.
Hope he shows me wrong and take 10 wickets, at least then h bowled good for the team and the humble pie would taste delicious.
Mmmmmm, Osama Bin Amla is out…
SA 10 / 2
Donner, it’s difficult to find a dentist today…. any blogger who is a dentist…. I will drive or fly to get to you!
There goes Amla too. So much for me saying he should open. Though I will stick to that. Very tough for batting out there at the moment.
Need to just bat very well no fancy stuff and get through another 6 overs or so and it will start to become better for batting.
Ek dink tandartse is so skaars soos hoendertande vandag
Daar moet n wet wees wat hulle verplig om op lang naweke te werk, dis gewoonlik dan waneer mens mos die verwoedste tandpyn kry
Hows this for speedy travel-
China has unveiled what it billed as the fastest rail link in the world – a train connecting the modern cities of Guangzhou and Wuhan at an average speed of 350km an hour
15 – GBS…. CONDENSED MILK.
Now what I tell you? You suffering with pain because that is your cause boeta. It sticks to your teeth and erodes the enamel that leads to tooth decay and also bad gums. LISTEN sugar ROTS THE TEETH. NO MORE condensed milk.
Try putting some strong whiskey to that tooth it may help. If it does not at least you will feel HAPPY…HEHEHE.
17@ SuperBul – Fark, die pyne hardloop hier na my regter oor toe en om my regter-oog…. Ek is fattup!
GBS, Last year this time I had terrible toothache. Found a dentist here in Umhlanga on Christmas Eve and he made it worse. Only got it done proper when I went back to Joburg mid January last year. So I sympathize with you and that pain. Toothache is horrible.
COME ON ENGLAND…..
How are we looking out there in South Africa?
GBS, toothache….on Boxing Day!! (Puma and I will not mention condensed milk at this point)! Poor you, you chance of finding a dentist is ZERO!!
Morning superBul and Puma, hope you and yours enjoyed your Christmas Day. I am taking my first cup of tea in my P.J’s….love the chance to be lazy and not feel guilty!! 🙂
18 – Super now that is FAST.
19 Hahahahahah Puma our comments crossed over then re condensed milk, GBS also loves horrible chewy sweets too, his poor enamel!!
Hello boys and girls!
Puma, you forgot your Superbru pick, maybe just as well 🙁
superBul, you would not want to hit a stray yak or rickshaw at that speed!!
Morning Piet
The only remedies I know for toothache involve cloves and whiskey, both in abundant supply at Christmas!!
Morning Carol, Hope you had a great day yesterday. Ours was superb.
Yip England playing well at the moment. The if our batsmen stay in for another few overs it will all change there. Always like that there first 15 overs tought to bat in then it becomes far better for the batters than the bowlers.
Very humid here today. See some of the Brits putting some ice packs on them…….hehehe. Some clouds about so hope it does not rain. Still very hot at the moment.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
28 – just ignore the typos..LOL.
