As told by Harold Holmes, from what he could remember, and learned from older members of the club. Continue reading
Blatantly plagiarised from elsewhere – still amusing nonetheless 🙂

This is the first of a series of articles on the SA Franchises that I am going to place in preparation for the 2010 Super 14 competition, being the last of its kind before the evil conference system takes over in 2011.
Obviously everyone posting here is an expert. Whether that expertise lies in rugby we will find out during the course of the season, so I have taken it upon myself to give everyone a breakdown of the contenders, unbiased of course, a reminder of who’s who in the showpiece of Southern Hemisphere rugby, especially for my esteemed light-blue colleagues in the Pretoria-Clan, yes boys, there are other teams competing in the Super 14 as well. Here are some humor that i have found on the net. Continue reading
The South African Proteas take on England in the 2nd 5-day Test of the series of 4 Tests, after drawing the 1st Test in Centurion. This is the traditional Boxing Day Test and this year it takes place in Durban at Kingsmead. This is your match thread for discussion of the game.
At this time of the year everyone wants to pick their “Team of the year” , “Team of the decade” and so on. I wont try it because it is anyway just My Team, everyone else will have His or Her own team. What I am going to do is post a few opinions about the South African players that get into most teams. Always nice to hear the praise words. This year we had a quite few outstanding players. The one I miss is Heinrich Brussow, maybe only because Richy McCaw has such enormous status. But Heinrich your time will come.
The article and discussion we had about player burnout by Dr Tim Noakes made the News in New Zealand today. It gave John Smit a bit of a tongue lashing.
As for Springbok captain Smit, Noakes was scathing.
It’s said money makes the world go round. And, it’s money that the Border Bulldogs need if they are to at least hold their own on the rugby field.

I went and scouted for some Christmas Humour, seeing that the rugby news is rather DEAD…. and found the following! After all it is the season to be naughty… or is it perhaps jolly….. or jolly naughty?
Watch this video… well let it “buffer” well, otherwise it plays in fits and stops and starts often… oh and by now you all should have Adobe Flash Player installed on your PC’s, if not download it from: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP
It’s free and perfectly safe!
Murray Mexted former All Blacks No 8, and currently TV commentator, has advice for Piet de Villiers.
He feels that the Boks will need to ad more dimensions than the cautious kick and chase approach to their game, to build on their successful 2009 campaigns. Scoring more tries will be vital. Continue reading

Fanie Louw by Doc Craven
Fanie, Boy’s brother, was a little bit shorter than Boy and not quite as versatile a player, but he had a very jovial manner, always well liked, and forever up to some kind of mischief.
I found this article quite entertaining. I know we can add a lot more. I bet we will be able to add 50 more before Christmas.
This is a bit old, seeing it was announced on the 15th, but I would like GBS,s and other Blue Bull supporters comments on this. The rest can debate or attack our view with pleasure, just remember Bulls supporters have memories like elephants. What you say might be held against you in a “stadium of reality” like Loftus.

WHEN the Waratahs first spoke to second-rower Hendrik Roodt about the possibility of playing for NSW, one of the first things they asked was how he would feel about facing former Bulls teammates Bakkies Botha and Victor Matfield in Pretoria; his response: “I is happy to play in Australia”. Former Springbok and Blue Bull scrumhalf Piet Uys passed away yesterday morning after a long illness.
Uys, who turned 72 on Thursday, was a legend in Northern Transvaal and Blue Bulls rugby circles, having played 12 tests and 17 tour matches for the Springboks as a scrumhalf in his career.
Day 2 of the IRB George Sevens today. There were a few surprises yesterday, with Samoa beating New Zealand and Kenia drawing 12 / 12 with the Springboks. This highlights the closeness or competative nature of Seven’s Rugby, one cannot relax for a second!
So much was said about the management of our Springboks here. Many agreed that the players must be properly managed to make it to 2011 Rugby World Cup. Others denied the fatigue factor. We throw stones at SARU, Peter de Villiers and anyone else we think has created this long International season. Then we putt up a poll and guess what?
Well, this is the last real taste of rugby for us in the Southern Hemisphere till preparations for the Super 14 gets serious with the warm-up games during late January 2010…. so let’s go full-out here, support the Team, blog like crazy.
