The Springbok starting XV to face France in Toulouse on Friday shows four changes from the run-on XV that did duty in the Boks’ final Vodacom Tri-Nations encounter against the All Blacks in Hamilton in September.

Zane Kirchner, who made his debut in the third and final Test against the British & Irish Lions in July, returns at fullback in place of Frans Steyn, who is currently playing in France, whilst at wing, JP Pietersen, who was injured in the first away match of the Tri-Nations in Perth, returns in place of Odwa Ndungane

Centre Adi Jacobs and No. 8 Ryan Kankowski, who were on the bench in Hamilton, have been promoted to the starting line-up in the place of Jean de Villiers (overseas) and Pierre Spies (injured) respectively.

Danie Rossouw and Ruan Pienaar are only other survivors from the bench in Hamilton, with five changes being made. Lock Andries Bekker, who was also injured in the Perth Test, makes a return as does centre Wynand Olivier, who last warmed the bench for the All Black Test in Bloemfontein in July.

Adriaan Strauss, who has played five Tests to date, replaces Chiliboy Ralepelle at hooker and CJ can der Linde takes the place of Jannie du Plessis at tighthead. Loosehead Wian du Preez, who was called up along with Strauss and Van der Linde this week, is also amongst the reserves.

Du Preez is the only uncapped player in the 22. Van der Linde, a veteran of 56 Tests, last played for the Boks in August 2008 whilst Strauss’ last appearance was in July 2008.

“The core of the match did duty during the Tri-Nations campaign and will provide us with stability going into this tough opening Test,” said Springbok coach Peter de Villiers.

“There are a lot of experienced players in the starting XV as well as on the bench which will be important to our continuity as well as to ensuring that we maintain our structures and play the way we want to.

“I have full confidence in the new players who will be starting on Friday, they have shown their qualities before and we have to make sure we get the best out of them. The three newcomers are all good players in their own right. CJ is very experienced whilst both Adriaan and Wian have been part of the squad previously,” De Villiers said.

    @26 GG
As Bekker opkom, vir een of ander rede, dan is ons in groot moeilikheid, hoor my lied!
    Die Franse sal hom opvreet.

  • 32

    26 laughing at GG

  • 34

    @33
    Net so!

Mirrag almal, Oooooh I have an uneasy feeling on my stomach for this one…….

Should have started with WO, would have played RP as full back with Kirchner on the bench, although I must say the more Kirchner played in the CC the better he got, also needs more confidence, dont however think he should be starting for the boks, Hmmmmm also feel that DP should be on the bench and this time round hope Kanko can live up to expectations…..has not filled me with much assurance yet….

Ek sien julle mense later, dis hel warm waar ek sit en blog hier in n opslaangeboutjie in S-Nam by die vliegveld, gaan koue bier soek, anders dood ek….
    Tjeers eers.

  • 38

    Bye Pietman………

  • 39

Anyway, lets hope these guys can pull it through. I think this game is bigger than we all realise.

I mean, we may be playing in NZ every year. But its been longer since we won in France than we won in NZ (thats before last year, of course)

  • 40

#39 I know, this is no push-over French side, look what they did to the All Blacks in NZ this year……I just dont feel happy witht his team, Adi gaan suffer!!!! think Kanko will Suffer and Bekker, and not much confidence in Zane either, think he is gresat but not on bok level yet

  • 41

Thanks Pietman.

  • 42

#41 Glo my jy wil dit nie eintlik sien nie hehehehe

  • 43

I am happy with the team not much to complain about cept i would rather have WO playing instead of Adi and really wanted Deysel on the bench as i think he is a courageous player who doesnt do a bad job.

  • 44

#43 Yep a Bench with Danie, Deysel and DP would have made me feel muuuuuuuuuuuch better

  • 45

    Helloooo Tripples.

  • 46

Jy skuld me n Hite of Cass as ek weer in Itaewon is, ok?

  • 48

Could be worse they could have started with Pienaar 🙂

  • 49

  • 50

    1999 !

Wat gaan ek in my 2000ste boodskap skryf, enige voorstelle ?

  • 58

    Wat???
    Geen Patco Mechanic??
    hehehe
Deysel is vir my ‘n baie beter speler as hy.

  • 59

    Afternoon everyone.

    58 – KP

Agree I would have had Deysel on the bench instead of Bekker. Danie can cover 4 and 8. Deysel would have been a great back up if Burger gets injured.

Very worried about Adi at 12. Playing out of position too and that French centre is HUGE. They going to target us at centre.

Wish somehow we could still have been able to select JdV and Frans Steyn. Then we would be ready for them.

59 – Have just said Hi to you on Voldy!! You are seriously well travelled……there is so much of the world you have visited, is this for work or pleasure?
