It was reported in Pretoria News today, that the Lions are trying hard to get Blue Bulls and Springbok hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle to play for them next season.
Ralepelle, however, is under contract with the Bulls untill 2011. Ralepelle is reported to be unhappy with the Bulls resigning Gary Botha, which could mean that he will not get game time as expected, with Derick Kuhn moving back to flank.
Ralepelle’s legal team, who is also Pieter de Viliiers’ legal team, has been working hard behind the scenes to find any loopholes in his contract to pave his way to join the Lions. It is also said that if he is to join the Lions, he could be the new Lions captain.
The Jaque Fourie saga has opened the door for players to move to a different union, while under contract. The Louis Ludik and Willem Alberts saga will also be heading to an arbitration hearing. The main reason for Ralepelle to move to the Lions, is due to a lack of game time at the Bulls, whereas Jaque Fourie, Louis Ludik and Willem Alberts were all first choice players at the Lions.
Ian Schwartz from the Blue Bulls who is responsible for contracting players, has confirmed that he had talks with Lions CEO, Manie Reynecke, but nothing materialised.
The Lions could do with the likes of Ralepelle, but if this does materiliase, the GLRU can no longer point fingers at either Province or the Sharks.
C’mon Lions. Do the right thing.
Offer a transfer fee and buy him out of his contract.
If Chili is not going to get much game time. Let him go to the Lions where he will probably start. Need our Bok players to get more game time with their unions.
Morning all.
The Lions should rather lure Willie Wepener back….that boy can play….and he’s from my hometown.
Puma, I agree, especially when you have an opportunity to captain a Super 14 franschise. But in saying that, I would hate for the Lions to do the same as Province and Sharks.
5 Surely if the Lions pay a placement fee the bulls might reconsider? the other thing is the Bullsmight be a bit ‘suurgat’ as they have been carrying Chilli for years and hy is always hurt, only plays a few games and then not whole games in a season…
Hi there Puma, you have been accepted in my pool 🙂
7 – Tripples, yip I got it right first time…. 😆 Getting better at it. Feel like old veteran at this now…..hehehe
6 That’s the way I would do it, not look for loopholes, pay them for Chili.
Thing with Chili, he never used to play much rugby always being second choice, he was never completely “matchfit”, hence injuries when gets to play.
But I rate him, if het gets serious game time and leads the Lions, watch him.

You skelm… 😆
8 bdb, hahahahahaha, NEEEEEE!
10 – WL
I rate Chili too. Always remember how good he was playing in the U19’s and was captain there too.
He has just been injured so much since then and probably has fallen back a bit and also not getting enough game time.
If he gets to start at the Lions gets plenty game time. Watch he will be a great player the player I expected him to be. So good luck and hope he does go to the Lions. They will use him as their first choice hooker.
13: Dit is so.
13 – BDB
You are very right there boet. Chili will captain the Boks after 2011 but I would have had D. Potgieter to captain way before Chili too. A born leader is Pogieter. But in the new SA it wil be Chili. I don’t have a problem with Chili being captain he was a superb captain in the U19’s. Only he is injury prone so who knows it could still go to Potties the captaincy after 2011.
16 – BDB
If Bulls got Heinke they would be even stronger. 😀 Let him stay at Lions. They are building for next year.
14 – Bulls losing players.
That’s the problem with having such a great side with so many great players. Players behind them get gatvol of no game-time and want to play. Maku almost went to Force, but fell through.
Ex-Bulls now with the Lions:
Ruan Boshoff
Johan Jackson
Burton Francis
Marius Delport
Wouter Moore
All of them not getting game time or opportunities. And they’re all really young.
5 – WL
I agree there especially if he can captain a S14 side. Chili should go to the Lions.
WilladieLeeu, What has happened to Todd Clever? Thought he had signed another year witht the Lions? Or has he just gone home for a holiday and a rest for now?
23 Puma, Ya. he’s coming back in Dec.
puma boet did willa also catch you out about ludick and alberts??
he caught sharksgirl bigtime lol
25 – Sharky, No he never. Just answered on the otherside to you. Going back to read it…hahaha.
24 – WL
Well that is good news. Think he is a fine player and a good teams person. Looks like he really enjoyed his time at the Lions.
It is time for SA Rugby to start showing some balls and start acting in the interest of players, unions and rugby in general.
Chili is under Bok contract, but that becomes farcical if he is not the first choice player at his union.
SA and Bok rugby should not be held ransom by unions.
If there is a clear case that Chili will not get the desired game time at the Bulls, and the Lions guarrantee this bar injury or serious loss of form, SA rugby has to step in and act in the best interest of rugby and the player.
Can anyone spell ‘central contracting system’
Catch a wake up SARU
gbs is jy wakker ?? lol
and good morning old chap
