The Springboks are at last choosing more experienced forwards for their tough tour in the Northern Hemisphere, with a player like CJ who is well experienced and used to the conditions up North, he is also joined by Wian Du Preez and Hooker Adriaan Strauss
With Courtecy of News24
Tighthead prop CJ van der Linde will join the Springbok squad in France on Wednesday as a replacement for Jannie du Plessis, who has withdrawn from the European Tour with a hand injury.
Leinster-based Van der Linde made the last of his 56 Test appearances for South Africa against Australia in a Vodacom Tri-Nations fixture in August 2008.
His most recent appearance for Leinster was in the Irish champions’ 23-6 victory over Cardiff Blues on 31 October, before the break in the European season for the autumn internationals.
Van der Linde made his Test debut as a 22-year-old against Scotland in 2002 and was a member of the World Cup-winning squad of 2007.
“It’s fantastic that we’re able to call on a player with CJ’s experience to join the squad,” said Bok coach Peter de Villiers.
“With such a tight schedule it is also helpful to be able to bring in someone who has been part of the group before, knows the systems and will settle in quickly. CJ is also a specialist tighthead who will provide the type of cover we will need.
“It is unfortunate that we have lost three players so early in the tour but that is part of the game and we have to be able to manage such setbacks,” de Villiers said.
Hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle and prop Gurthrö Steenkamp were also forced home with injuries following the opening match against Leicester on Friday.
Van der Linde will travel to France on Wednesday where the rest of the squad, arriving from Johannesburg and London, will converge in Toulouse. The other two replacements Wian du Preez and Adriaan Strauss will join the squad in Johannesburg on Sunday.

‘Hoe die blink kant bo’ xxx
Peter de Villiers knows absolutely nothing about the front row.
The first thing he did when he was appointed coach was go to the UK and make sure Smit and Victor were on board.
I said it then and will say it again, he should have made sure that he got BJ Botha, no matter what it took.
We have a complete front row that has been stuffed up embarrasingly this week and all 3 sent home injured, so now he is forced to make the right selections.
Unfortunately the complete lack of knowledge about scrum technique, and the abscence of a well qualified scrum doctor in the Bok set up will still continue to harm us on this tour and into next year.
Simply now throwing in the promising free staters does not instantly solve our weakness at scrum time.
The neglect we have shown to scrumming over the years and the inability of the coaches to admit the problem and go and get the right people to help out is the real problem.
Of course none of these very highly paid “expert” coaches are willing to admit that scrumming is an area of the game that they do not understand, so they pretend that it will fix itself when they get powerfull props, without understanding that scrumming is a science that is mostly about technique and discipline.
It is not the players who should be blamed for our bad scrumming.
The problem is Peter de Villiers and his coaching team.
The explanations they give to the media about our poor scrumming are indicative of the fact that they simply have no idea about the technical issues of scrumming.
Scrum coaches and old prop forwards in the UK must be laughing their heads off.
As for the French, Italians, Irish and Saracens, I know what they are planning!!
@70
tighthead @ 70
hmmmmmmmm ok,
i’ll have a quiet word in pdivvy’s ear, we’ll get bj here and walla … tighthead will start singing pdivvy’s praises, hehehe (thats what its all about and has always been, isnt it tighty?)
oh, and morning EVERYONE
yes bluebulls supporters, sharky_forever AND tighthead included!! 😆
Kingpaul.
I agree.
Os or Proudfoot are better than what we are doing now.
They are both experienced scrummagers.
You are right that a good prop does not necessarily make a good teacher, but the only people who REALLY understand the technical issues of scrumming in the front row are ex props.
An expereienced and good ex international tight head like de Villiers is worth his weight in gold when teaching the youngsters, however a good scrum doctor also understands how to build a solid 8 man unit that scrums with the right technique, body positions and timing.
tighty @ 74
agree
Morning…
71# KP
#74 Not sure Os is available. He retired by in 2007 and said he wants to be on farm more. But anything would help at this stage.
TIGHT HEAD…………. good morning mate , hope you are well
i wrote the article regarding accessing players and their respective possitions as you might have read
not my take on the scrums was yes the front row was not good but there were many contributing facters
i felt the hookers combining with the 2 props were not good
i felt the locks were not scrumming well and like bekkers body position in the scrum was not good
i also felt the 3 loose forwads were all guitly of not scrumming at all and were upright and not pushing at all
thus the front row were always in for a hiding
to me this shows poor coaching etc
but i am not an expert front rower like you, i was a full back and center lol
can you do us an article on last fridays nights scrums sprcifically and explain exactly what went wrong in the engin room
i ask this as all of us always point fingers , but not always at the right person or problem
if you can boet would be appreciated
I am worried about our second best players who will take over after 2011. I am not referring to the transformation players like Chilli, Maku etc which we all know shouldnt be there. Im referring to the players who many feel should be there!
Lets look at the tight 5. Jannie Dup, Bekker, Rossouw as been part of the Boks for a while and many has said before, we need Heinke with the Boks. But they couldnt do the job on Friday.
Is Bekker, Pienaar, WO etc really good enough to take over when injuries hit?

Nee man, Flokkie is BAIE beter skopafrigter as Percey, hulle moet hom nou permanent aanstel as Bokke se skopafrigter.
My groot worry is nog steeds ‘n opvolg vir Bakkies…
Supa
Die op News24 gekry. Lyk nie of Pietie saamgaam Frankryk toe nie. Weet nie hoeveel hy in twee dea kon regkry nie…
“The scrumming performance against the Tigers brought another reaction from the Bok management – they have decided to call in Pieter de Villiers, the South African-born former French prop, to help them drill the scrum in the Johannesburg training sessions that remain ahead of Tuesday night’s departure for France. The Boks play the first Test of the tour against France in Toulouse on Friday.”
83# Vlokkie help net uit, Percy is terug volgende jaar. Vlokkie word nie permanent aangestel nie.
Stem saam.
hehehe
Ek sien hy is uitgewys vir daai “high tackle”
