The Springboks are at last choosing more experienced forwards for their tough tour in the Northern Hemisphere, with a player like CJ who is well experienced and used to the conditions up North, he is also joined by Wian Du Preez and Hooker Adriaan Strauss

With Courtecy of News24

Tighthead prop CJ van der Linde will join the Springbok squad in France on Wednesday as a replacement for Jannie du Plessis, who has withdrawn from the European Tour with a hand injury.

Leinster-based Van der Linde made the last of his 56 Test appearances for South Africa against Australia in a Vodacom Tri-Nations fixture in August 2008.

His most recent appearance for Leinster was in the Irish champions’ 23-6 victory over Cardiff Blues on 31 October, before the break in the European season for the autumn internationals.

Van der Linde made his Test debut as a 22-year-old against Scotland in 2002 and was a member of the World Cup-winning squad of 2007.

“It’s fantastic that we’re able to call on a player with CJ’s experience to join the squad,” said Bok coach Peter de Villiers.

“With such a tight schedule it is also helpful to be able to bring in someone who has been part of the group before, knows the systems and will settle in quickly. CJ is also a specialist tighthead who will provide the type of cover we will need.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost three players so early in the tour but that is part of the game and we have to be able to manage such setbacks,” de Villiers said.

Hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle and prop Gurthrö Steenkamp were also forced home with injuries following the opening match against Leicester on Friday.

Van der Linde will travel to France on Wednesday where the rest of the squad, arriving from Johannesburg and London, will converge in Toulouse. The other two replacements Wian du Preez and Adriaan Strauss will join the squad in Johannesburg on Sunday.

well atlast we are getting better props sent to face the battle up north

pity our coach wont budge about players that play up north, although he gave in to call up CJ

but we need F Steyn and JdV man we could be whipping the okes from up north

    Jis jis
    Howzit my copy&paste friend? hehehe

    8 – Sharky howzit my brudda.. 😆

Still angry about that loss on Friday night. Daft selections that cost us huge there.

Now quite worried about playing France on Friday night. Hope our scrum does not go back like the Dirt Trackers did. I think with Victor and Bakkies, Brussow probably Burger and Kanko we will do much better in the scrum. Still have to see who they select to start.

  • 11

    9 – KingPaul

I say so too. PdV should just select JdV and F. Steyn for the test against France and Ireland. We really need both those players.

Don’t think Adi is up to test level at the moment. Has not played well this year. Zane not at test level either as we saw when he played in the E. Boks and the last test against the Lions.

1 – Sharky I only saw that now that CJ is joining the team. Good news that. He can cover LH and TH. Though I think they should have called up WP. Nel. Probably because CJ has experience playing in the NH.

Should call up F. Steyn and JdV too. Then we set and ready.

7@ Tjarky _ Pay?? What Pay???

Hehehe, no man, you have the privilage of blogging with me…. that should be payment enough!

Damn, the forced selections are suddenly looking like they are being done with heads in stead of assholes… why were’nt these okes not there from word go?

I tell you what, Snorrie & Dickie & Gary Glitter got a moooooooooooosa fright Friday night about the strenght of the Northern Hemisphere scrums.

  • 14

wno knows guy ,seriously its impossible to fathom why we throw away players like bj, steyn and jdv just to name a few

  • 15

lol gbs true boet , they creamed there thongs 😆

  • 16

13 – GBS we should only ever select the best. That is what cost us on Friday Night. Now they have the bragging rights to say they beat the World Champions. Rubbish that was our 3rd or 4th team. Also they not called the Springboks but our Dirt Tracker team who never had the Bok jersey on. But Tigers will always say they beat the World Champion Springboks, that will go down in history.

We supporters have our pride too. Hope those 3 coaches know that and should always select the best players no matter what colour they are.

  • 17

Will this mean that Smit goes back to hooker? I certainly hope so.

  • 18

And once again decent and rational selections are being forced upon PdV. For suck fakes!!

  • 19

17 Loosehead, I hope so too.

Beast will start. John at Hooker and CJ at TH. Lets see what happens.

I somehow think CJ going to be on the Bench and W. de Preez.

  • 20

Snorrie will keep his favourite front row… Beast, Bissie & Smit.

We’ll be lucky if both Du Preez & Cj is on the bench…

  • 21

    20

Yea gbs, I think you are right there

  • 22

Also wonder who he’s going to select at 12 and 15…. Adi & Rose?

  • 23

    22@ SAB – Adi & Zane…

  • 24

    23

We need a solid in form 12 in the NH. If he doesn’t pick WO I will soil my last clean pair of pants

  • 25

  • 26

  • 28

    @24

  • 29

    26 gbs

Gaan hy saam toer, of help hy net hier vir ‘n paar dae?

  • 30

    @26
