Dan Carter gets to sit out the Italy game for his tackle on Martin Roberts. The judge was easily convinced there was no malice in the tackle, impressed by Carter’s spotless record, forthrightness in regards to the matter & apology to Roberts immediately after the game. Carter waived the right to appeal the ban wanting to simply put the entire unpleasant episode behind him and as much as Warren Gatland will wail & flail – the matter is now closed.
Looking back the All Blacks entered the Welsh test at an historically low ebb. They had been “Rainbow Warrior-ed” by the Frogs, smothered in the Tri-Nations by a Springbok side that it turns out couldn’t get past a NH club side & had their aura questioned by Warren, a Welsh Wally.
In fairness, the Welsh forwards were a lion – if not dragon – hearted lot yet magically remain sufficiently inferior to the men in black to make the country’s national symbol – no, not the leek, the other one – more huff than … well Puff – yes they ran out of steam. Their backs on the other hand, a famously nimble & dangerous lot, just not enough so to actually score tries, but no doubt nimble and dangerous just the same – cos Warren said so. And, pay attention here because this is solid advice, just don’t tackle them hard or you’ll end up with the rugby world’s most tuneful booing greeting to your every touch of the ball.
Just ask Dan Carter, that ruffian who strikes fear into the heart of … well … Welsh backs & their coaches apparently. Should he have been penalised ? I think yes, yellow carded ? Aahh no Warren, I think not. If he had been penalised there would have been no cause for the citing which has subsequently resulted in a 1 week ban – but the ref was not in a position to see in that split second & despite that fact that we all love to rile a ref – they cannot penalise what they do not see.
Finally, some heart-warming thoughts for dads everywhere from young Zac Guildford – “I thought about dad when I was in the changing room putting on my jersey. It was the fulfilment of a lifetime’s ambition. Dad just adds the motivation and that is why I am out here playing rugby really. I grew up always wanting to play for the All Blacks. Even when I was 3 or 4 and people asked me what I wanted to be in life, I’d say ‘an All Black’. So it was a dream come true for me tonight & it was everything I thought it would be and more.”
Ja, sorry about the mismatched photo but I performed a search for the “highest” tackle in the game & that was what came up 😉

My “irony” must have got lost in translation … & GBS no, befiore you even go there, “irony” is not something wives do to their husbands laundry !
DC tackled hard to dislodge the ball & probably a smidgeon high – his arm further slid up as the player he tackled went down. He deserved a penalty, no doubt, but was his the only high tackle in the game is the question I am trying to subtly pose – that is all 🙂
Hahaha… *Blush* Whooooppss… My bad!
Bakkies would have been suspended for 6 months for a tackle like that.
Lossehead
Bakkies would have missed … that Welsh shorty would have gone straight under Bakkies arm & scored ! Or Roberts would have dropped the ball & run to hide behind one of those Welsh fatties at the mere sight of Bakkies looming into view 😆
In fairness to Roberts, it was not the player but his whiney-a*sed coach who has done all the complaining. When asked about it Roberts said DC came to him after the game, said there was no intent to hurt him – just to get the ball but apologised anyway, so as far as he (Roberts) was concerned that was the end of it.
Well on thing is for sure. Carter has never been a dirty player ever. If the ref saw that tackle he would have got a yellow and that would have been it.
One week ban is fine ABs wont miss him playing Italy. Carter will be back for the big games.
on meant one
3# Rugby_Princess_Dizzy_Blonde – Hehehe
Irony is well known to me my dear…. I was married, before Handbriekie, to a strange creature… a round-headed house animal who treaded tracks like a human, and who walked backwards when we danced…. I had to have a sense of humour to survive the irony I faced…. hehehe.
About Dan Carter, I think it’s unfair to ban or cite him…. they are taking these citings way too far now, on a regular basis.
