Fourie du Preez – 2009 SA Rugby Player of the Year

Top honors go to Fourie du Preez for the second time in his career, joining a small elite group led by Naas Botha(4), who won this award more than once.

Du Preez – who won the award for the first time in 2006 – claimed the Super 14 and Currie Cup titles with his province as well as helping the Springboks to the No 1 world ranking in conjunction with the Tri-Nations title and victory in the 2009 Lions Series.

“It’s a tribute to the sustained excellence of Fourie’s play that he was chosen by the media for this prestigious award. There are very few players in world rugby who can claim to be as influential as he is.”

SA Players’ Player of the Year – Morné Steyn

Young Player of the Year – Heinrich Brüssow

Team of the Year – Springboks

Coach of the Year – Peter de Villiers (Springboks)

Currie Cup Premier Division Player of the Year – Luke Watson (Western Province)

First Division Player of the Year – Allister Ketteldas (Pumas)

Lions Series Provincial Player of the Year – Heinrich Brüssow (Free State Cheetahs)

Lions Series Test Player of the Year – Morné Steyn (Blue Bulls)

Super 14 Player of the Year – Morné Steyn (Bulls)

Vodacom Cup Player of the Year – Jonathan Mokuena (GWK Griquas)

Try of the Year – Jaque Fourie (Gauteng Lions) in the Second Test in the Lions Series in Pretoria on June 27

SA U20 Player of the Year – Lionel Cronje

Springbok Sevens Player of the Year – Frankie Horne

SAA Club Champs Player of the Year – Dustin Jinka (Hamiltons Club)

SA Rugby Women’s Rugby Achiever of the Year – Saloma Booysen (Eastern Province)

Marriott Refereeing Achievement of the Year – Jonathan Kaplan

Coca-Cola Craven Week Player of the Tournament – Andile Jho (Border)

Lionel Cronje was really brilliant in this year’s U/20 RWC. Hope that bloody Rassie gives him a go next year. Will become a Springbok legend that boy.

MS moes nie Super 14 speler van die jaar gewees het nie. Het sy game ‘n hele paar levels geraise na die Super 14, was goed in die Super 14 maar die beste? Geen manier nie. Wynand Olivier was ‘n yster van week een af gewees, en Deon Stegmann was ook uitstekend gewees (Die belangrikste speler in die Bulle se 2009 Super 14 titel as jy my vra). As daar ‘n Tri-Nations speler van die jaar was sou Morne Steyn dit gekry het…
