Western Province beat neighbors Boland by 50 points to 7 at Newlands today.

The home team were in control for the full 80 minutes and Boland never looked like scoring except for an intercept try scored by Deon Scholtz in the 68th minute.

Andries Bekker made a solid return and was replaced by Anton van Zyl after 50 minutes. Pieter Louw won the MOM and put in a good performance along with fellow loose forwards Francois Louw and Watson.

Joe Pietersen, Tonderai Chavhanga, Frikkie Welsh, Paul Bosch, Sireli Naqelevuki, and Australian youngster Matt Toomua all had good games at the back.

The WP pack continued their good form of this season and were instrumental in all three tries by Watson when they simply bulldozed Boland over their own tryline to allow Watson to dot down for the easiest of tries

It is difficult to judge the play of the team and individuals against a Boland team that did not provide much opposition due to their trials an tribulations of the past months. It has to be said though that the WP team for next weekend against the Lions and in particular the semi final will be a more powerful unit as they played without 8 first choice players today.

Today’s 5 points amounts to mission accomplished as it guarantees a home semi final ahead of next week’s fixture against the Lions in Johannesburg
