Western Province beat neighbors Boland by 50 points to 7 at Newlands today.
The home team were in control for the full 80 minutes and Boland never looked like scoring except for an intercept try scored by Deon Scholtz in the 68th minute.
Andries Bekker made a solid return and was replaced by Anton van Zyl after 50 minutes. Pieter Louw won the MOM and put in a good performance along with fellow loose forwards Francois Louw and Watson.
Joe Pietersen, Tonderai Chavhanga, Frikkie Welsh, Paul Bosch, Sireli Naqelevuki, and Australian youngster Matt Toomua all had good games at the back.
The WP pack continued their good form of this season and were instrumental in all three tries by Watson when they simply bulldozed Boland over their own tryline to allow Watson to dot down for the easiest of tries
It is difficult to judge the play of the team and individuals against a Boland team that did not provide much opposition due to their trials an tribulations of the past months. It has to be said though that the WP team for next weekend against the Lions and in particular the semi final will be a more powerful unit as they played without 8 first choice players today.
Today’s 5 points amounts to mission accomplished as it guarantees a home semi final ahead of next week’s fixture against the Lions in Johannesburg

Ek sien hulle saai dit wel uit op tv, so ek die tellings byhou – as ek kan byhou hehehe
Alweer Gerrie Coetzee TKO?
WP probably pick up the 5points here. Sharks need to play really well to get the bonus and stay ahead. See Kaplan to ref the Sharks. Hope he has a good game.
@Puma –
Sharks/Bulls final again, mark my words.
Got to feel for the Cheetahs though, they had a good season, also the boys from Kimberley coming to the party big time, good for SA rugby.
But as I say, Sharks/Bulls are just that one step ahead, very professional outfits those two.
@Pietman – 4
I have said it all season its going to be a Sharks/Bulls final. I hope so Piet. Always good to see the best play against each other. Now with both teams back to full strength (well almost – John Smit has a neck injury not serious I heard but out for 2 weeks and we missing Deysel to injury) we will see some really good rugby from both those teams.
WP should get the 5 points today Piet. Sharks have to play really well to get the 5 points against Lions today. See Kaplan reffing Sharks game.
@Pietman – Ek is darem nie so seker nie. Twee dinge wat my laat wonder.
Helloooooooooooooooo
Ek is by die huis… en nog heel… ok maar net-net !
@Puma – 5
The best two teams does’nt always play in the final. Just think back to WorldCup 2007. After this weekend we will have a betetr picture as to who will play who in the final. And even then we will have to wait for the WP/Lions game to be sure.
I love this game!! :laugh:
@KingPaul –
Hoor my lied….
@KingPaul –
Ja, Vrystaat ongelukkig gewees daar, vir seker.
@KingPaul – 8
Jeepers, KingPaul I just wrote you a nice long post on this and it said posting to quick..haha. So will start over.
First of all Hello KingPaul,
I know the best two don’t always make the final. You are correct we may have to play Bulls in the Semi then only one of us will make it. I think somehow though that now with Bulls having their Boks back they will be a very different team come semi time. It takes time for players to gel back into a side. Also if Sharks pick up the bonus today then I think it will be a Bulls/Sharks final. Bulls will be up for it at Newlands in the Semi. They will have had a few games with their Boks back and will gel by that time.
I say if Sharks pick up that bonus today. I say for certain it will be a Sharks/Bulls final.
Sorry KP 😉
Oh,btw, GO BOOOOOLAAAAND!!!!! :laugh:
@Puma –
Ditto.
@KingPaul – 8
Ja, I love this game too.
Well you never know Lions could surprise Sharks today and win but I doubt it. The only thing is we may not pick up the bonus. Then its a race to see who will finish on top of the log. WP still have to face Lions at Ellis Park too.
I have no doubt that WP will collect the 5 points today though 😀
@Pietman – jy net nog steeds suur or Puke Watson 😉 Gee bietjie krediet waar dit nodig is. Ek glo ook jy sal hier by my ‘n dop kom drink as jy weer in die Kaap is sodat ons weer daai lied kan sing. hehehehe.
@grootblousmile – 7
Hello GBS, Sounds like you had a great time. You have a big hangover today boeta? hehehe.
@Pietman – 4
Piet forgot to mention, yes agree, its really great to see the boys from Kimberley doing so well today.

GBS put up a cricket thread. Its Paki playing New Zealand in the semi today. I would but not sure how to do it. Just that we have somewhere to post the scores as we see the game. Otherwise I post inbetween the rugby..haha.
@grootblousmile – 19
Did so in my post 16 to you ou maat…You have a hangover boeta?
Praat weer later.
21@Puma – Puma, a thread is up for the cricket now… gooooooooooi mieliessssssss there boeta !
22@Puma – Bangbabbelas of note… eishhhhh

@KingPaul – 23
Of course you must stand by your team KP. WP have been playing well this CC season.
Now enjoy your rooywyn ou pal. Ek sal ook, when the Sharks/Lions game is on.
@grootblousmile – 24
Ag, Dankie boeta.
@grootblousmile – 25
Ag, enjoy life is too short. Sometimes rough is lekker…hehe. I had some huge hangovers when my Scot visitors where here.
Okay out of here for a bit. Going to watch the start of the semi final between NZ and Paki in the crici.
Thanks GBS for the crici thread. Back later.
28@Puma – Most of the students at Potch did not go home for the holidays… on Thursday night we ended up at one of the clubs there in Potch… and myself and Os (BonzaiHandbriekie’s boyfriend) showed them how REVERSED JEAGIE BOMBS are drunk.
After a while the 2 of us were the life of the party there….. hehehehe… they had never seen so many Jeagie’s put away… I spent about R 900.00 on Jeagie Bombs alone….. flok !
