WP hosted the BLUE BULLS in their semi-final of the Currie Cup Premier Division today, at Newlands, Cape Town. The Bulls won a nail-biter with 7 Morne Steyn penalties. Bulls won 21 / 19.

If you told me before the game that the game would be this hard and closely contested, I would probably have scoffed at you… it was a humdinger!

Bakkies, Bakkies, Bakkies, there you go again.. getting a yellow card in the 1st minute of the game! The “Enforcer” had a hard and uncompromising game and it did’nt cost the Bulls in the time he was off the field.

The Bulls started on a rampage, racking up penalty after penalty and in less than half of the First Half,were leading 12 / 0, because of the once again faultless boot of More Steyn.

ThenWP fought back and by Half Time they had scored from 2 penalties of their own.. also from the faultless boot of Joe Petersen.

After Half Time, WP came out with purpose and Gio Aplon showed jet-shoes to follow up a brilliant kick from Frikkie Welsch and beat Wynand Olivier and Pedrie Wannenburg to the Try Line, scoring the only try of the match.

Penaties decided the rest of the match, with Morne Steyn slotting a 53m Kick for the winning margin of 2 points with 2 minutes left on the clock.

It is difficult to single out star performers for this match because both from the Bulls and WP all players played their hearts out, all players and substitutions played like Springboks.

For the Bulls, the calmness of Victor Matfield, Fourie Du Preez and Morne Steyn stood out, for WP Joe Petersen, Gio Aplon and the war horse, Schalk Burger stood out. Schalk Burger also probably put in the tackle of the century when he monstered Fourie du Preez as he was about to put a kick through, near halfway.

What a game…. SA Rugby is alive and well!

In 2 weeks time we’ll see the Final at Loftus in Pretoria.

    At one stage thought Bulls were going to run away with it and get a huge score. Was just far to close for comfort. But a win is a win. In a knock out game all it takes is to get one point more than the other team. That is it.

    Just pleased Bulls won.

    MS is die kosbaarste speler tans in SA. FDP is die wêreld se beste, maar as MS seerkry, is daar niemand naby ‘n miljoen km in SA wat tans naby hom kom nie.

    Hoop die Bulle het hom gekontrakteer tot hy op pensioen gaan !

    GBS it was great having the photo’s here today. Should always do that during a big game. Especially when Boks play. Enjoyed seeing those photo’s on and off here today.

    Very good idea to get someone to send them to you to put up here.

    @bdb – Jis maar JL Potgieter is ook flippen goed. Nie so dodelik met skoppe nog nie , maar as Flokkie hom beetkry en afrig, sit ons met enorme variasie en talent op 10.

    @grootblousmile
    Thx GBS, very nice those.

    Vic needs a haircut, btw, he looks as scruffy as Cabal!

    @carol – Carol this type of game must somehow be good for me, my heart pumped like hell. What tension, almost unbearable.

  • 284

    @carol – 281

    Yes Carol, My team lost in the last min. Cheetahs deserved it though. The game between Province and Bulls was another heart stopper. Some great rugby here today but your team won. Congrats. I was cheering for Bulls to win.

  • 285

    @superBul – Who needs to go to the gym…..you heart gets a workout on the sofa!!!

  • 286

    @carol – 281

    Carol hope you wearing your Bulls jersey with pride today.

    They are about to win everything this year. S14 and the CC. Great team the Bulls right now.

  • 287

    @Puma – You are being very generous there Puma, The Cheetahs must be delighted tonight……See Irish has been visiting!

  • 288

    @Puma – Puma your team never got going when the Boks rejoined you. And now the choker tag is hanging heavier on your teams neck. A shame , but imagine the vibe at Loftus in 2 weeks time.

  • 289

    @Puma – Work all day today Puma and tomorrow, the strangest thing though a guy wearing a Sharks shirt came into where I work this afternoon and I had just sneaked a look at Rugby Talk to see the scores, at this point the Sharks were ahead so I said to him, “I have to tell you your team are leading at the moment”!! He looked a bit surprised until I explained that I was interested in South African Rugby. We had a bit of chat…said I was a Bulls Fan….he said “the second best team in South Africa”!!

    Wierd or what, Sharks fan in West Oxfordshire!!

  • 290

    Bulle sal op al hul silinders moet hardloop om die Vrystaat te wen. Weet nie wat ons moet Brussow gaan doen nie, kan ons hom nie koop voor die 31ste nie ? 😉

  • 291

    Boys have to cut and run, dinner party to go to……at least I am not cooking!!

    Go Bulls…….

    GBS sorry to miss you this evening, another time!

    Have a great evening all xxx

    @superBul – 288

    I know Super. Not sure what it is when we play Cheetahs.

    Think just one more week if we had won the Boks in the team would have gelled.

    Adi cost us today. Those stupid drop kicks we were trying we daft really.

    Anyhow good to see Bulls win. Just never wanted a Province final.

  • 293

    @Puma – they will feel distraught , ifeel sort of sorry for them shame at least they got Newlands full, not like the arrogant Sharks who saved their money for the final at ABSA

  • 294

    @carol – 289

    Work today Carol? Jeez you need a holiday.

    Great to meet another Shark supporter.

    Yes it was really good to speak to Irish here today. Nice of him to come and post with us during the game. Good oke Irish. Enjoy speaking with him.

  • 295

    @superBul – 293

    Don’t think there were arrogant Sharks Supporters Super. Think there was rain due and heavy forecast but it never came during the game. When there forecast a lot of the season ticket holders don’t go. Pity they missed out.

  • 296

    293@superBul – word wat gaan die Sharks nou doen met al daardie kaartjies wat alreeds gedruk was vir die finaal ? 😉

  • 297

    @Puma – sorry after heavy meant to say rain and again after should have said when there is rain before forecast.

  • 298

    @Supa Die Bloubul – En met joune ook! Hehe

  • 299

    @bdb – word = wonder

  • 300

    @bdb – 296

    Don’t think anyone has bought tickets yet. It normally goes for sale after the semi. Only season ticket holders have tickets at the moment. So no loss there.
