Julle sal oplet dat slegs 3 spelers in beide spanne “born and raised” in hul onderskeie provinsies is.

Yip, It is sad we are losing some great players. Barritt will play for England too. Sharks could have done with him this year for sure. We need centres.

We will lose more and not just senior players but the youngsters that have not played for Boks that will turn out for Wallabies and Damn maybe All Blacks that would give me a heart attack…..hahaha. Don’t want to lose players to our greatest rivals.

We have to look after them. The only way is players HAVE to be selected on merit. Always.

    #11 Van,

Joe might be born in Bloem but something happened to the guy while he’s been down here in Skelmbos, ’cause the man didn’t miss a single one of our blues gigs at Manoushe Lebanese Cafe last year.

He either really digs the blues, or had an eye on one of the waitresses. If you want my objective opinion, I reckon its the former. 😉

  • 35

    KingPaul
In the WP squad on their site, the following players were NOT born in the western cape:
    Mujati
    Toomua
    Chavanga
    Brok
    Schalk
    Wikus Blaauw
    Deon Fourie
    Shimange
    Schalk Brits
    Tiaan Liebenberg
    Fondse
    AJ
    JAck
    Duanne
    Pieter Myburg
    Schalk Burger
    Grant
    Welsh
    Bobo
    Paul Bosch
    Sireli
    Human
    Jantjies
    Percy
    Joe P

The following players were born in the Cape, but made there name somewhere else:
    Van Zyl
    Lobberts
    Ricky
    De Waal
    Des fountain
    In total = 30 players.
You can not go on where someone was born. I mean, Schalk Burger was born in PE, but I would NEVER consider him anything but WP!
Some look at where players were born, others where they went to school, uni etc. to manipulate their point of view.
I look at where a player made his provincial debut, but even that is debatable.
We should just accept players WILL move between unions.
From birth, right through to their proffesional career.
Sometime I like it, example Habana joining the Bulls from the Lions, and sometimes I hate it, example Habana leaving for WP.
Best to accept is us quickly as possible, although is not easy…hehe
No point in really discussing it, as it depends on WHEN EXACTLY do you regard a player as “a player of your province”.

    30 – Polla

There will be more going. Especially because of the S15. Those Aussies will be here to scout like crazy. It will be our youngsters they will want as they will want them to not only play in Super Rugby but for Wallabies.

Need to keep our youngsters here at all costs. How did we lose Frans Steyn at the age of 22 to play for Metro in France? DAMN BUGGER ME that really gets my blood boiling. Even if he left Sharks and went to another union it would have been fine with me but to lose him from Bok rugby is just a damn shame. PdV has to open it up a bit for overseas players. Maybe allowing to select 2 only and keep selecting Frans at FB. If he selects more than 2 then we will have a 50 or so going tomorrow to play in NH.

Wish the Rand was as strong as the Euro or pound. None would leave. Sun, braai great beaches they would stay.

Money is drawing them that is why Aussie will get the youngsters. They have the same sort of lifestyle there that we have here but of course they don’t have the money the NH clubs do.

    van Straaten @11
Joe is from Vryheid in Natal, went to Pioneer High there, til Std 8.
Only saw CT when he were drafted by Maties.

KP, Morne grew up in Bloemfontein (left CT aged 2), schooled at Sand du Plessis, where he partnered Ruan til Std 9 ( when Ruan moved over to Grey).
These stats mean sweet ‘Fanny Adams’, btw.

GBS, happy anniversary on Monday bru, I am having mine in Swakopmund this time!
You and I have stuck it out well with the good ladies, keep going…..
Congrats on Nov 2nd to Handbriekie as well.

Ok boys, later in the year we will talk again, I am on a standover here in the Singapore rain, not too bad, walked the greens a bit at the Barclays Open to kill some time, waiting for a connection to the RSA…

    Cheers all.

40 – Tripples, hello ‘sister’ liked the ‘Bad Boy’ conversation you had with Treehugger, gave me a chuckle!!

  • 48

  • 49

#47 was fun, ‘some people’ disappeared once TH and I got going hehehehehe as I said only bad boys when mommy is not around 😉

    Supa

  • 51

    #34 Tripples,

I put a fun little 3-piece together that allowed us to swop instruments continuously (guitars, drums, bass, vocals, harmonica etc) and called it Parys Hillbilly and the Happy Endings.

It was great fun, Tripples and the people that saw us enjoyed the concept almost more than what we did – which I thought was actually damn unfair of them!

  • 52

    45: Middag Feiteman !

  • 53

45@ Pietman – Flok, thanks for reminding me………. otherwise I would have been in the kakkas…

The late GBS Maximus would have been 80 on Sunday…. I miss him !

  • 54

GBS hoe lank is jy en handbriekie getroud? ek en my man sal Desember 22 jaar anniversary hou

  • 55

#41 I would regard a player from my province one that was schooled there rather than born there. It’s at school that your love for the game develops and where you develop your initial skills and where he gives his first steps at Provincial level, either at u/16 or u/19 level. By that time the school/province already invested some time and money in the player.

  • 56

    41 – Supa,

I regard a player as part of my province as soon as he signs with the union. Hernandez is from Argie and I think of him as a Shark now. That is the professional era that does that.

Otherwise if it does not stand. Then give us BAKKIES back……hehehe. He is a son of Natal….. 😆

Really though for me it is where you went to school, like if you had children now in the UK they would go to school there speak with a British accent and they would consider themselves Brits. Well that sort of thing. They pick up the accent the way of life where they got to school.

  • 57

    #44 Polla

So you agree with me then; the boy from Bloem was there for the blues, hehe!!

  • 58

#53 Shame GBS, ons voel met jou……..

  • 59

#51 Sounds awesome Fender…I Loooove the blues

  • 60
