With one semi final vacancy to be filled this weekend and only the semi final match ups to be confirmed the heat is beginning to build up between supporters. Forgotten is the United front we had when the Springboks played.
Bloggers on various Rugby Blogs are now heating up and verbal abuse against your enemy reaches boiling point. Good friends now turn on each other, sling accusations around. All part of the one thing that kept SA Rugby going in the isolation years, PROVINCIALISM. Gladly it is mostly all forgiven and forgotten after the winners are crowned. Almost immediately after a final most of the losing supporters muster all their strength and courage and congratulate the winning teams supporters.
Then follows the boasting and bragging. That is the right the winners earned, aptly called the Bragging Rights. The losers are left with ref blaming and the excuses. That can last for weeks depending on the closeness off the result. We will get to that part after the Currie Cup was won thats a guarantee.
Gloves off
Guess who said this
Frankly, you make a ridiculous argument. The Cheetahs, Lions and WP are in artifically inflated log positions due to the Bok-issue.
The Currie Cup is a total farce if these teams sweep all before them up to the play-offs, only to be demolished by the Bulls and Sharks once the star Boks have settled back into their provincial teams.
All it does is give the likes of WP a cash boost they don’t deserve, thanks to hosting the play-offs. They are in effect being rewarded for not producing players of sufficient quality to be absent on Bok duty.
Furthermore, this situation is encouraging teams to rather contract high profile foreign players like Hernandez, Jack, Tiguiri?, etc. as they will not be affected by Bok selection during the campaign. This is to the detriment of local players like Ruan Pienaar for example, who needs now cannot play in the appropriate position at the Sharks.
The situation is a farce, and will be proven as such once WP finally have to play either the Bulls or Sharks at full strength.
Quote:
“The Currie Cup is a total farce if these teams sweep all before them up to the play-offs, only to be demolished by the Bulls and Sharks once the star Boks have settled back into their provincial teams.
And
“The situation is a farce, and will be proven as such once WP finally have to play either the Bulls or Sharks at full strength.”
End Quote.
So much for an emotionally distorted view
Now what is the factual position?
All Springboks were available for the S14 competition.
2008, which presents a good yardstick.
16 February 2008 Stormers vs. Bulls at Newlands in Cape Town. Bulls won 16-9; hardly a demolition.
23 February 2008 Stormers vs. Sharks at the Absa stadium in Durban. Sharks won 12-10; once again hardly a demolition.
2009
14 February 2009 Stormers vs. Sharks at Newlands in Cape Town. Sharks won 20-15; yet again hardly a demolition.
7 March 2009 Stormers vs. Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. Bulls won 14 – 10; demolition? A 4 points demolition??
Cold hard facts devoid of the intoxication of emotions, suggest no substance for stating that WP will be “demolished” by full strength Sharks or Bulls teams.
Anything can happen on match day, but calm and collected rugby lovers would know better than to stick their necks out with bold and clearly arrogant predictions dressed up as facts. The potential risk of humiliation is simply too great to make it worth while.
@SA Barbarians – Same old story every year SAB, if I had hundred bucks for every time I had to hear or read about the Cheetahs only winning because of the lack of Boks I would be rich. Either that or the ref cheated of course…:roll:
It does not matter, there is no room for comments on the scoreboard and neither in any official record book.
@Swanie –
But that has never stopped you having something to say though has it you Vrystaater you 😉
How are you ? Why the name change ? Are you in witness protection hiding from your wife ? :pirate:
@Swanie –
@SA Barbarians –
It sounds like the Bulls supporters are getting their excuses in early.
@SA Barbarians – 2
Thats the beauty of blogging. You can let it rip, say what you want, rile up the opposition, all from behind your PC.
You might see it as a plain loss , the next guy see it as a demolition. The fact is one feels shattered every time you end up losing a game. That demolished feeling.
@superBul –
SuperB, well I certainly felt pillaged after the 3N this year … Am so pleased I dont follow cricket 😥
Hey, how are your babies ?
@Rugby_Princess – Big now , almost time to release them.
Watch your mail for a recent photo, sorry for the people with them.
The beauty of the Currie Cup

What an interesting weekend of Currie Cup. You see, for those of you who are interested, i have this running bet with a so called resident blogger Jakes, and it has to do with Province handing that horrible team that wears baby blue a damn good hiding! But after this weekend, it all seems to be building towards what wives and girlfriends of bull supporters would know so well as an “anti-climax!”
After the superb display by PROVINCE, and the rather dissapointing diplay by the clearly second best team in the Currie cup, the Sharks, it seems now that the boring bulls are not going to be embarrassed in the semis by PROVINCE, but will be returning to that city of dullness with their tails between their legs and rings in their noses after a good thrashing by a Sharks outfit who are just waiting for a lesser team to run their moves against before the grand final at Newlands.
The good news is that the final will and could and really should be played at the home of rugby, headquaters Newlands, and what a contest between the Sharks (who haven’t beaten Province this Currie Cup) and PROVINCE, who have a huge farewell party lined up for the humble captain Luke Watson.
The Bad news is that PROVINCE are not going to be able to shove the tight five of the baby blues all around the park again, nor am I going to be able to read Jakes blog about the superiority of PROVINCE, nor am I going to see Luke Watson holding the Currie Cup aloft over a tear ridden (except for Habana, who recognizes a class outfit that will soon be home) bulls team.
But then again, this can all change again within a week, and that is the beauty of the Currie Cup!
First some work, enjoy the bantering, everyone needs a relief valve. Let it blow.

Yep, THAT time of the year again, and many a supporter praying and hoping for a fairy tale ending, albeit how unrealistic….
Your team however still in with a strong chance, I think, and deservedly so.
Also the team with the most decent supporters on all rugby blogs, the Cheetahs, imo.
@superBul – :laugh: you are a very funny man and brave (still laughing).Province supporters from around the country are going to hunt you down and do baaaaaad thingsw to you.
But you are right 🙄
oh that was about your first post
@superBul – SuperBul a question totally of topic, but have been thinking for a while that kanko is not in the top 3 as a no 8 BUT what about him playing as a center, i know it might sound a bit ludicrous but think about it and if i am totally of the mark please explain why it is a bad idea.
Oh and anybodys input would be good here 😕
