Morné Steyn was named as the Vodacom Bulls’ Super 14 Player of the Year at a glamorous function in Irene on Monday night.
Steyn has had a dream season and his form in the Vodacom Super 14 tournament has been scintillating throughout the competition.

His goal kicking has been unmatched from the first to the last round, but let us not forget his superb tactical kicking and the way he has developed as an attacking flyhalf.

Steyn has shown on numerous occasions that he has the temperament to match his enormous talent and it has to be said that he is arguably the best defensive number 10 on the planet.

Steyn’s halfback partner, Fourie du Preez, received the award for the Best Backline Player and Pierre Spies was named as the Bulls’ Best Forward.

Like Steyn, Du Preez has had a super season and lots of people think he is one of the favourites to be named as the IRB Player of the Year. His tactical genius is worth gold to the team and his enthusiasm and passion to play for the Bulls is a massive motivational factor for everyone in the camp.

Spies showed during the course of the Super 14 that he is undoubtedly the best number 8 in the world and week after week he managed deliver one terrific performance after the other.

With ball in hand he has showed that he is unmatched as a ball carrier and it was great to see how hard he has worked on his all round game.

Awards:

Vodacom Bulls Player of the Year: Morné Steyn

Vodacom Bulls Forward Player of the Year: Pierre Spies

Vodacom Bulls Backline Player of the Year: Fourie du Preez

No problem, I saw you did apologize afterwards, didnt know you dont go there anymore.
My job on RT is to deliver news on the BULLS, so the article was actually to inform our readers of the three Bulls AWARDS and not really to go into detail about who is the best flyhalf and who is not.
But I know fender likes to challenge every opinion here.
About the flyhalves, you are entitled to your opinion and I do not agree about Francis being better than Hernandez, Carter or Steyn etc. but we all have our opinion which makes it interesting. I do agree with your comment about our coaches overcoaching our players.
    All good Braam Van Straaten!

I normally just refer to “CC” in my posts, but there are some of our authors (me included) that’s made errors. Please remember, none of us are journalists or writers.
This site was started because we want to talk rugby and nonsense on a blog without religion, politics and racism. And make it a fun place and we are getting better at it I hope.So bear with us.
If you think you can do better, please feel free to send us articles and we will post them!
If you still dont like our articles or grammer, then dont come here.

I like you guys. Most of you are Bulls fans like me. I’d rather come here than go to Keo, or some of the other places. What makes this place great is that the people on here are here for the love of rugby. I’m sure I can learn a lot from the people on here, and I have learned a lot from people on here. I like to challenge my views and I’ve seen quite a few valid arguments against what I’ve learned as the “right” way of rugby.

    All good Supa die BlouBul.

I’d rather look for someone with the physique to attack in defence, as well as being able to attack defensive lines and distribute accurately and intelligently. Goalkicking must be solid.

Kicking goals under pressure is undeniably very important, but with the arsenal at our exposal it should not even come to that to be blunt.

I know that there will never be another Honiball, but we need someone with similar characteristics.

Does anyone know of someone who has the potential to fit the bill? I respect what Morne has done, but I think our backline isn’t even close to firing. The coaching is also to blame.

Coaching a backline to be able to pull off breathtaking and original manoeuvres under pressure takes great players and, as our esteemed coach found out last year, a deep knowledge of the game as well as out-of-the-box, intelligent thinking. I’m loving the fact that we are winning, but you always get the feeling that there can be so much more. Rugby is one of the most brutal and beautiful sports on earth, I am satisfied with our physicality and yet I long with just a bit of finesse.

    Just how I feel.

Oh, and I just want to say congrats to the Bulls. Great year all round. If I was not a Cheetah to the core I’d back you guys.

    gbs,
