Sharks Coach John Plumtree has been able to select from just about his strongest squad of the Absa Currie Cup campaign for Saturday’s showdown with the Free State Cheetahs in their Absa Stadium Durban semifinal.
Courtecy of the Sharks official web site:
Stefan Terblanche will retain the captaincy role he has carried all season with great success but he will be aided by two other leaders in John Smit and Johann Muller – the latter one of a slew of players who went into the week with an injury cloud hanging over them, but have all emerged match ready.
The backline remains unchanged although Monty Dumond comes in for Waylon Murray on the bench in the only change amongst the backs. In the forwards, Jean Deysel who played off the bench last week starts at flank alongside another stalwart in Jacques Botes who also makes a welcome return from injury.
The Vodacom Super 14 lock pairing of Johann Muller and Steven Sykes is re-united with Muller’s arm holding up against a physical bashing in practice while the front row remains intact from last week (and the Springboks) with both of Bismarck du Plessis and Tendai Mtawarira having come through the injuries the pair sustained against Griquas last week and have been passed fit to play.
Michael Rhodes and Alistair Hargreaves are the unfortunate players to miss out, although their contribution has been invaluable and they will certainly share in the team’s euphoria and success.

thanks gbs
good team , much as expected
Now it says I am posting too quick…….hehehehe. Have to re type the damn post over…….unhappy smiley…haha.
Very good starting 15 that. Pleased that Muller, Beast and Bissie are there.
Now wonder what ever happened to Mvovo? He played some great rugby before Odwa returned. Sharky you know mate?
GO SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSS
@Tripples – 2 Big Smiley..haha.
@Puma – no idea to be honest , i think he been dropped , as he only had a light injury
Have any of you guys seen the kick to the face that Adi Jacobs gave one of the Griekwas guys last week?
I was mighty surprised that there was no citing.
@sharky_forever – 6
I thought maybe he was injured. Played some great rugby while Odwa was on Bok duty. Think Mvovo has far more speed than Odwa. Maybe not the same experience but see a good future for him. Thought he would have been kept in the side after playing so well. Rate that youngster.
Goeie span, as hul ‘click’ gaan die Ctahs ‘n lang dag hê.
@Puma – rate him too , he is young bro his full time come
Good team. We will have some tough encounters this weekend. May the best teams win.
7 @ Cosa – Nope did not see it. Was it delibarate?
@sharky_forever – 10
It sure will. Pleased we have him at the Sharks.
@Snoek – 11
Sure is a great team. Yip, may the best teams win this weekend in both semi finals.
Just really hope its a Sharks/Bulls final. If not so be it.
Good team. Should whack WP in the final.
@Cosa – 7
No never saw it.
@K9-MonsterLeeu – 15
That is if WP and Sharks make the final. Could go anyway this weekend for any of the 4 teams.
I feel though that Bulls will have too much power for Province but then like I have said its a one off game so WP could win. Cheetahs too could win. I think Sharks have a great side and should win but like the other semi all it takes is only one point to win. Cheetahs could win too. Just hope its my Sharkies that win though…..LOL.
May the best teams win this Saturday and really hope the two best face each other in the final.
SA rugby is just brilliant. To think we can see that high standard of rugby just amongst ourselves is awesome.
Very good team.
@Rooipiet – Jy ‘n bul? En wat is dit van Jorrie?
@bdb –
Daaai Cheetah -voorhoede is wild.
@bdb –
@Snoek – 12
I thought is was pretty gross, and my son saw it as well. We then took it slomo thru that, and is still looked like a deliberate kick.
One of the Kwas tackled Adi, but they fell in a loose kinda 69 position. Adi then klobbered him one with the foot under the chin.
@bdb –
A decent but not unbeatable team.
Where are the Sharks usual games about not being able to give in a team list due to injuries, naming one team and then playing another, bracketing players as the coach isn’t sure about who will play? No this is too clean for the Sharks, they must be up to something.
Just a little scenario that ran through my mind (I’m bound to make full recovery, hehe!) regarding the captaincy:
Against all the odds the Sharks are having one of those days where nothing seems to go right and after 20 minutes find themselves behind their own posts awaiting the conversion which will make the score 16-3 in favour of the Cheetahs.
The team turns to:
a) Their captain for advice and inspiration, or
b) John Smit for advice and inspiration.
If they naturally turn to Smittie, why not make him the captain in the first place?
