The Sharks are set to gain the services of new players within the near future, this comes after the dissapointing exit in the Currie Cup semi finals at the hands of the Free State Cheetahs.

It seems the Lions are set to lose more players as the speculation of these two mentioned players grow stronger and stronger.

With the joy in the Lions camp of gaining the services of former Sharks coach, and assistant Springbok backline coach, so comes possible disappointments as news of more players leaving the Union.

Following the news of Jaque Fourie’s arbitration victory, follows the news that 3 more players are on their way out.

With lock Gerhard Mostert who has already signed, and is training with the sharks already, and now being followed by Louis Ludick and Willem Alberts.

It is expected that the players will sign 2 year contracts starting as of 1st November 2009, according to Sharks chief executive Brian Van Zyl the players are eager to join the Sharks and should not have a problem winning an arbitration as their contracts with the Lions union is exactly the same as that of Jaque Fourie.

With the Lions having lost its case against Fourie it is unlikely for them to stand in the way of Ludick and Alberts .

The “get out “ clause in the case of Fourie , Alberts and Ludick apparently revolves around a clause that states “the parties agree to review the remuneration for 2010”.

According to Jaque Fourie’s agent Peet Van Zyl, Jaque will put pen to paper within the next dew days with the Western Province Union.

    Steyn 21 – 19 WP

As a WP supporter I was not anywhere near confident that WP would win this weekend, other than our friend Spectre. In fact, I was convinced that WP would not be good enough for the Springb…I mean Blue Bulls. Yes, considering that during the pool stages we only beat the Bulls without their Springboks by about 3 points, and lost to that same team on Loftus, I was convinced that WP was in for a beating on Saturday.

Well, much to my surprise WP brought their A game and delivered a real spectacle of a semi final, one that made me really proud to be a WP supporter (for a change)! That feeling of pride was turned into shock and horror when the WP’s “creative” management team decided to change a squad which was doing perfectly well, by bringing on the flayling fidjian!. When they brought him on, I dropped my head in dismay and wondered: “What the heck are they thinking?!” The guy has cost us so many games, and has hardly ever lived up to expectations, and here he comes with minutes to go and gives the game to the Bulls!

Well, that is history now. Well done to the Blue Bulls and congrats with your team!

Now, it is hard for me to put this into a way in which the ardent Bulls supporters can accept it as a genuine concern, so I will just say it: You need back-up for Morne Steyn. Let’s be perfectly honest with each other, and I am not talking IF’s here, this is merely a post match analysis, looking at the weak points and thinking of where the Bulls can improve. Had the Bulls not had a 90% success rate kicker in their squad (27 out of 30 kicks in Currie Cup this season), they would have not won the game on Saturday. They need to either protect him at all costs, or get someone with the same success rate as him, or need to score more tries. I am not saying by any means that the Bulls are playing boring rugby – WP defended like demons (hats off to Joe Pietersen!). The Bulls do seem to rely quite a lot on Morne Steyn’s boot to do the job for them.

It is a great advantage to have someone like that in your squad. And one would hardly have blamed him had he missed the final kick. And my concern goes beyond the Bulls though. Morne has been the difference in most cases for the Springboks in the tests this year, and without him, we do seem to have a problem, especially when we kick at goal.

Its a simple risk analysis. The guy is a phenomenal kicker and with him in your squad you will always have the edge. The challenge is to develop your game, the Boks and the Bulls, in order the reduce the reliance on him so that IF he gets injured, or has a bad day at the office (like missing 1 kick out of 8), it will not be the difference between winning or losing.

Good luck to the two finalists next weekend. My gut says the Cheetas will take it by a whisker, just because they seem to be the team with the momentum on their side – and the fact that they nearly came away with a victory the last time they played at Loftus. But it will again be a tight contest, and one hell of a spectacle to watch, no matter which way your provincial allegiance goes!

Everyone so far reckoned the Bulls with their Springboks played a good game and praises WP for losing by 2.

The fact is that at least 5 Bulls had a very quiet to poor game.
Habana was not worth much on the day, so too Zane.
Bakkies was scared to climb in because another yellow would have been a automatic RED. Stegman definitely struggles since his injury. And can anyone tell me where was Kuun and also the drives of Gurthro and Werner.

Now dont come with they were not allowed to play that well because the WP did not allow them. There was 7 names above , no ways could they all be sucked in and neutralized by the WP. Believe me i am a Bull supporter for ever , my team did good to win but if anyone in the State think that that was our A game, please keep on believing that.

    PYN!

    @superBul

SB, I hear what you say. I was really surprised at how quite some of the Bulls were. Season too long, not taking the opp. too serious? Pacing themselves for the finals? Just doing the minimum it takes?
    Who will know?

Two more things are certain though. From WP’s side, many players had a “quite” game as well and the Bulls are too professional to just let it slip.
It was a tough game, and province so nearly took it, but in the end the Bulls did. Thats all that matters…

When will the Sharks learn that you can’t buy a team?

Ludick I can understand, they need a back up for Oupa who has said that he has 1 more season left in him. But who will the Sharks play? Oupa, who has done wonders for them over the last year or 2? Or Ludick who they will have spent a fortune on? Either way 1 of the players is going get splinters, or will the Sharks rotate them and just not settle on a team again?
Now Alberts is interesting for me, what a player, but where will he play? He is too short for a lock, as a stop gap measure maybe, but what will happen to Sykes? Will he lift Kanko? To me Alberts is a better player so yes. That means that Kank might be up for sale Dick.Or will he displace Deysel, who I think is overrarted. Move Deysel to the other side and play him as a fetcher? That means that either Botes or Daniel will be up for sale.

Sharks, you can’t buy a team.
