WP will face the Leopards, Boland and possibly the Lions without ironman Schalk Burger.
The departure of Chris Jack and the injuries to Fondse and Van Zyl, has come at an unfortunate time in view of other teams being bolstered by their returning Boks. The tight five that have shocked a few arch enemies and their supporters who vocally love to hate anything south of the Hex River valley, may find it more difficult to impose themselves to the same extent that they muted the noise levels of Loftus and ABSA stadium earlier this season.
The medical news on Burger is that his ribs are still severely swollen and tender after his injury in the 67th minute of SA’s Tri Nations win against NZ last Saturday.
To make matters worse for the resurgent WP outfit, the injuries to Willem de Waal, Fondse and Newman have been confirmed as long term, which means they will not play any further part this season. Andries Bekker is still on the mend and will also miss Friday’s excursion to Potchefstroom.
The substantial vacuum left by Jean de Villiers will also be felt, but fortunately Juan de Jong has shown huge potential in midfield, and his pairing with Frikkie Welsh looked sharp and attacked with pace against the Cheetahs last weekend.
Ricky January will be rested this weekend. Allister Coetzee did not elaborate on what the cause of his fatigue was. It is doubtful whether his current form can justify displacement of the incumbent Dewaldt Duvenhage.
De Kock Steenkamp will fill the void left by Chris Jack in the engine room, and Tiaan Liebenberg will join Hilton Lobberts on the bench.
“We wanted to keep that continuity going,” Coetzee said at the media conference on Tuesday.
“Making a lot of changes at this stage can be disruptive. We are definitely looking to consolidate”
This where the rubber hits the road, and where the walk should be walked, and the talk be left to those who mask their fear by making snide comments about the shadows as they walk down a dark alley.
238@Supa Die Bloubul – I am quite hurt by your remark. Now go and drink a warm beer and eat Toad In the Hole in some dark and smelly Pub as punishment.
241@bdb – History always repeats itself, the Tjarks will choke. The Freestate are their bogey team.
242@bdb – Bliksem, but you guys are cruel.
245@Loosehead – net ‘n grap my vriend.
243@Loosehead –
Dont feel hurt. Props have other great attributes like scrumming and eating Hamburgers really quickly etc.
245@Loosehead –
Ons grap sommer Loosehead, alles is goeie gees bedoel! With Brussouw back in the Cheetahs team, a win is definitely possible.
@bdb –
Hulle het nog Ricky en Willem Alberts?
247@Supa Die Bloubul – Thanks Supa, that make me feel SO much better. Now I am hungry…………..Burger anyone?
251@Loosehead –
Didnt know you were the sensitive type! Double cheeseburger for me, with fries, thanks!
249@Supa Die Bloubul –
246@bdb –
I really think that the Cheetahs can and will beat the Sharks who have not really impressed me. Who will the Sharks get back for Saturday? Kankowski, Muller and Jacobs? If the game is tight it is goodbye Kanko. Muller is a journeyman and Adi hasn’t exactly set the world alight this year. Remember that the Freestate have also beaten the Bulls [ 😆 ] and dealt with the WP. So yes I think that it is game on.
253@Loosehead –
From what Ive heard, everyone is back except Muller and Beast who are injured. Bismarck, JS etc will play!
253@Loosehead – And Pienaar? Will he usurp the Argie or Terblanche? Can’t see it happening. Will he play at 9? When did he last play at 9?
254@Supa Die Bloubul – I can’t see that happening, just like I can’t see the Bulls playing their Boks, or the WP. But wait WP don’t have any returning Boks.
We should really be resting the Boks [starting players] until the semi’s. Except for Brussouw of course.
@Loosehead –
Except Brussouw?! Bulls wil rest Matfields, Du Preez, Habana etc but they will play next week, you can be sure of that. Too much at stake. And I honestly read somwhere that Bismarck etc will play this weekend.
I enjoy the CC when it strength vs strenght! But these guys do need rest sometime…
Bakkies is in elk geval beseer, so sal seker eers weer in semi speel.
@bdb –
@Supa Die Bloubul – Bulls team has been announced on the new thread. I also enjoy the strongest teams playing against each other, it just musn’t happen for the next two weeks. That’s all. 😆
Sharks sal Smittie laat rus.
Beast is glo beseer.
Kanko, Muller, RP, Adi en Odwa gaan speel.
Bismark op die bank.
Dit is wat ek gehoor het.
258@bdb – Bakkies beseer? I thought that he doesn’t feel pain?
Bakkies is out for 3 weeks.
@bdb – 😆 it is only the WP who have to play their first team against the Leopards.
@fender – 63 What you have described here is the profile of a sociopath. Under normal, face to face circumstances able to mask their true feelings. heh, heh 🙂
