This is normally the time that the calculations begin to see who will host the semifinals and who will be playing away. This is how I see the last four rounds going in the Currie Cup for 2009.

Let’s start the analysis with the table topping Sharks team. The first row of points being the log points of the team being analyzed and second row of points for the team they play against.

Sharks (36)

Cheetahs (H)              4 – 1

Leopards (H)               5 – 0

Lions (H)                    4 – 1

Griekwas (A)               5 – 0

This will take the sharks to 54 log points.

Western Province (34)

Leopards (H)               5 – 0

Griekwas (H)               5 – 0

Boland (H)                  5 – 0

Lions (A)                    1 – 4

This will take WP to 50 log points.

 Griekwas (34)

Lions (H)                    1 – 4

WP (A)                      0 – 5

Bulls (A)                     0 – 5

Sharks (H)                  0 – 5

This will take Griekwas to 35 log points.

Cheetahs (29)

Sharks (A)                  1 – 4

Bulls (A)                     1 – 4

Leopards (H)              5 – 0

Boland (A)                   5 – 0

This will take the Cheetahs to 41 log points.

Bulls (27)

Boland (A)                   5 – 0

Cheetahs (H)               4 – 1

Griekwas (H)               5 – 0

Leopards (A)               5 – 0

This will take the Bulls to 46 log points.

 Lions (26)

Griekwas (A)               4 – 1

Boland (H)                  5 – 0

Sharks (A)                  1 – 4

WP (H)                       4 – 1

This will take the Lions to 40 log points.

The above scenario will make the log after the playoffs look like this.

Sharks             –           54

WP                  –           50

Bulls                –           46

Cheetahs          –           41

Lions                –           40

Griekwas           –           35

If the Cheetahs do not pick up some bonus points against the Sharks and Bulls, the might still end in fifth place. One win or loss against what I predicted might scramble the log drastically, but if I was a betting man this is what my final log would look like.

    @Pietman
    And Chris Jack, of course.
    Anton van Zyl and Chavanga also doubtful…
    What happened to the Fijian, btw, is he still in CT?

    @grootblousmile – I am not a Tjarks supporter! 😆

  • 33

    Hoe is dit moontlik om iemand ander se post te verander as jy nie n Mod is nie?
    @grootblousmile

    Ja nee, die Ridders raak nou uitgedun… en die Groot Bulle is terug!
    Serious revenge time.

    @Loosehead

    Not good, editing someone else’s post, how is it possible?
    Could have serious ramifications, eg. Pietman making advances towards Lilith or Dawn, something like that…faaaark! 🙂

    @Stan

    As al die Bulle en Haaie terug is gaan daai beker net een van twee plekke toe, Pretoria of Durban.
    Daar is min provinsiale spanne in die wereld wat enige van daai twee kan ondersit.

    No depth in the Bulls team. Aiaiaiaiaiaiai!!

    ok, first of all
    a very good morning to everyone
    after winning the 3n is such emphatic fashion on the weekend, i thought that i might be celebrating for at least the whole week
    but
    it wasnt to be …. at the moment i am (to put it mildly) die moer in
    1. after yesterday’s announcement by sanzar that arg will become part of the 3n (making it a 4nations tournament), the irb jumped in with their own announcement that this whole process was one that “was initiated by the irb”. can someone please explain to me how a proffessional game can be run by amateurs like that? they remind me of little children … whenever anyone says something about the referees etc, they throw a tantrum (vloermoer in afrikaans), now that sanzar have taken the initiative of providing argentina with the oppertunity of playing in a recognised tournament, they jump at the oppertunity to claim the honours

    2. Asad Bhorat, secretary of the Transformation and Anti-Racism Rugby Committee (TARC) called De Villiers the “ultimate traitor”.
    thing is, he’s not concerned with the fact that 2009 was perhaps one of our most successful years in ages, or that this current bok team (under a person of colour) is rewriting history,
    nooooooooooo, the only thing he is seeing is too many whites in the bok team. maybe asad should go and have a look at what steve biko stood for and stop expecting hand-outs …. and before anyone shout “racism”, i’m cullert bru and even i am getting tired of seeing my people waiting for someone else to better their lives.
    asad do yourself a favour bru and go and remind yourself what biko stood for
    or
    go and read a bloody self-help book

    Be more specific.
    Very few provincial teams will beat the Sharks.
    NO provincial team will be the Bulls!

    @Ashley
    More Ash, hoe habg ulle daar onner die rots vanoggend?
    Kyk, daar is n nuwe garing oor hierdie nonsens van Bhorat wat Tripples opgesit het.
    Pdev moet net aangaan broer, en hom nie steur aan die Bhorats van die wereld nie, voel ek.

    @Pietman
    Hoe ‘hang’ hulle, ek bedoel?

  • 43

    Quite obsessed with Biko there?
    Where does he fit into thew picture?

    @Ashley
