The Springbok coach has caused a mini-stir in New Zeeland by explaining the Bokke’s late arrival in New Zeeland in his own special way.
When asked why the Bokke have not travelled to New Zeeland but chose to stay on the Gold Coast in Australia before they will eventually go to Hamilton in New Zeeland, he apparently said, in his own special style “There’s nothing in Hamilton !”
De Villiers added that they want to stay away from any negative Press.
The Bokke will only arrive in Hamilton on Thursday.
“We will only know afterwards if we did the right or wrong thing. One thing I’m always aware of is not to tire the guys out psychologically”
“It is also quite nice to be around positive reporting”, said De Villiers.
The typical De Villierism’s has not been met very kindly by a few New Zeelanders, who take exception against the stance he has taken. The statements by De Villiers has definately not endeared him with members of Hamilton or the people of New Zeeland in general.
Say what you like, our Bokke coach has his own “special” style to treating media.
Whatever the situation, let’s hope it works for the Springboks, who looked listless last Saturday against Australia and let’s hope the Gold Coast Surfer’s paradise manages to re-focus the Bokke.
Ondiplomatieke Jan !
Late arivals Janne!
The old PDV has not left us.
One loss and he is talking a little bit of kak.
Lose again and the kak will start to flow!!
MaakdieskapstekersdiemoerinJan!!
@tight head –
As ons die 3Nation verloor, dan mag ek dalk ook op my Bokjersey ‘n katskiet!!
3@tight head – I cannot but help to have a good “lag” at Snorrie…
Imagine the scene…. NZ reporters ask him why they’re not in Hamilton…. listening attentively to what he’ll answer….
He then comes up with a blatant klap in their faces… “there is fokkolllllll in your crappy town of Hamilton”
What do you say or ask, as a reporter, after a rebuff like that??
Hehehehe
@KingPaul –
hehehehe!!!
@grootblousmile –
Yes he is piss funny!!
And he will make a lot of money for some media people before he is finished coaching the boks!!
but i thought there ISNT anything (other than cowbells) in hamilton!!
😯
Has there ever been an international coach that has challenged all and sundry as much as Snor? I mean we don’t even understand him. Half the time he sounds like David Byrne of Talking Heads!
And what exactly must the NZ press corp make of his chirp that the Boks want to avoid negative press? Its not like Aussie is currently overflowing with tributes to the Boks, is it?
“He says whatever he wants to and I kinda like that style” – from The lady don’t mind: David Byrne (apologies)
Weet nie hoekom PdeV dink dis n dooie plek nie….
@Pietman –
13@Pietman –
hehhehe, funny!!
natuurlik gebeur daar goete in darling
…
As hulle in JHB of PTA moet speel bly hulle veel eerder in CPT of Debbin…
Ek sal enige tyd in Hamilton, Waikato gaan speel van die bank af, vir R70,000 n shot, veral as ek Chiliboy of Ricky is en ek net vir twee minute of so my gesig hoef te wys.
15 Ashley
I’m told that Tannie Evita lives in Darling – is that right?
12@fender –
but i think he’s correct there (in a sense). had they been in nz, they wouldve had to answer on numerous issues like the scrum, tactics, jsmit at tighthead etc etc etc
yes, the aussie media isnt exactly a positive bunch, but at least they (the aussie media) are still basking in the “glory” of the once-off win, (spiros is attacking taine randell etc etc)
and therefore allow the boks to concentrate on their stuff.
@Morné –
@Supa Die Bloubul –
bang
@Supa Die Bloubul –
There is another side to the coin as well.
As much as I agree with PDV I am reminded of a story in cricket and a certain cricketer called Fanie de Villiers.
Whenever Fanie visited another country during his cricketing career he made a point of getting out and about on the street and mingled with the locals on the street. Even in places like India when the rest of the team was too shit scared to walk out of the hotel.
Fanie is to this day remembered as one of our biggest ambassadors our country has ever had, and also remains one of the most respected ex-cricketers in the world today
@Morné –
Hansie use to mix with the Indians.
@Supa Die Bloubul –
or is that fix with the Indians?
23@Supa Die Bloubul – LMAO!!
18@fender –
correct
@Supa Die Bloubul –
Ja but not in the same way as Fanie!!!
Fanie used his first name, not codenames!
24@Supa Die Bloubul –
come-on …. behave!
Spot on, Morne! And you can’t exactly get hotel fatigue if you’re exploring the country and mixing with the locals, can you?
Fanie was a poineer too. I can well remember his little radio controlled truck that brought the batsmen the drinks – and promptly drove into the stumps!
That idea was imported by the rugby fraternity and became fashionable for bringing the kicker’s sand/tee.Great character, Fanie.
And another De Villiers come to think of it. Something about that gene pool….
@Morné –
hehehe – just joking. I understand what mean, it earns respect from other countries when you make an effort to experience their lifestyle. Im actually a Hansie fan btw..
