Mumblings and rumblings after vital losses this weekend is making me grumpy this morning !

First we hear mumblings from Peter de Villiers that the Travel-factor has assisted in the loss of the Bokke, this past weekend. Then we hear from the Bokke skipper, John Smit, that the Bokke simply do not know what went wrong!

Hey, Snorrie & John, do not start the Traveling Circus up… accept that the Bokke lost to a fiercely motivated Ozzmob side, who threw everything at a lazy Bokke side this weekend.

Blue Bulls, same applies to you… no moaning about Pro Legoete or the fact that so many of your stars are at the Bokke !!

The Bokke and Bulls suffered exactly the same fate on Saturday, they were pummelled in the scrums, with their tight heads taking serious strain. Werner Kruger, the Bulls No 3, popped out like a cork in almost every scrum… as a Bulls supporter it was agonizing to watch and endure. John Smit, Bokke captain and tight head, did not do much better, popping up and out on regular occasions.

Both John and Werner seemed to make the same mistakes, going into the hit far too high AND with bent backs.

The plea today is for a scrum doctor to assist the Bokke as soon as possible.

The plea is also for the Blue Bulls to appoint a scrum doctor and fix the problem, else to get the injured Frik Kirsten to replace Werner Kruger as soon as humanly possible.

Remember how we scoffed at WP’s front row, barely 6 months ago? What has changed? I’ll tell you what has changed…. Mathew Proudfoot, the WP scrum doctor has performed miracles with the WP front row and his cause has considerably been helped by getting 2 decent locks, Anton van Zyl & Chris Jack to pack down behind the WP front row.

Face it folks, rugby is still a game won by those who fire up the engine room… the fatties in the front row, the tall fellas in the second row and those scavengers in the back row.

It appears from utterings today, after practise by the All Blacks, that they are licking their lips to give the Bokke scrum a full go on Saturday. They should also be equally motivated as the Wallabies were this past weekend, because they are still smarting from the losses they took against the Bokke.

Bokke, get you head space right, focus, sort out the scrumming this week !

Bulls, you have another biggie on Saturday, the Sharks! The same applies to you, this week you need to dig deep, this week your props, hookers & locks need to stand up and say, no more nonsense!

Ahhh, it feels better already, having gotten this off my chest today!

Goooooooooooi Mieliessssssssss !

Kan jy onthou Frik Kirsten was op my troue?

  • 64

Sharks still top the log in the CC. WP on the same points.

  • 65

60 @grootblousmile – as dit so is, wat dan van Guthro op haker ?

  • 66

    @bdb

Couldnt agree more, I am sure they will graft their arses off to get it right and I would be surprised if the little Kiwi prop makes as much of an impact as Robinson does. I dont think the boks will play as badly again and I dont believe the wallas will ever play as well again. Their best performance against our worst performance by some distance. They will get moered by the Kiwis coz they always do and be back to square 1 again.

I understand that if they didnt win at least 1 match they would be relegated from the tri nations and replaced by Argentina so they were playing for their survival. If only….

What really pissed me off was that LSD with the whistle ignoring Smit and treating him like a school kid — the worlds longest serving skipper and World Cup winning captain should (like all captains) be afforded time to query decisions. If FDP hadnt got an arm under Genias try, Barnes would have been in k*k as Genia hadnt tapped correctly and there would have been a massive stink about the legality of the try. Oom Paddy would have to admit that Barnes had got it wrong and he would have been packed off to referee Macedonia vs Guatemala or similar. It might not be in the rules but courtesy and proffessional should dictate that its common sense. Smit is not a bullsh*tter and had a legitimate query.

  • 74

P3 is nie n stut of n slot nie.

Gary Botha, BJ, CJ of iets.
Ons kort iemand van buite, n nuwe sterk stut of n ou ervare stut of iets. Dalk maak Kirsten dit, ons sal moet sien. Maar dis n probleem!

  • 77

    74@bdb

We cannot blame the ref or the opposition scrum for scrumming against the laws, when we look at our own scrumming performance.
The first order of business at scrum time is to make sure that you scrum technically correctly so that the opposition are the ones under pressure, and they are not able to put you under pressure whether that is legal or illegal.
Good scrumming, like good loose forward play lives on the edge of the law.
You get away with what you are allowed to get away with on the day.
If we coached props to scrum 100% to the letter of the law, they would get murdered!!

  • 79

@tight head – scrumming is the most tecnical part of the game.it also have some secrets that are not mentioned in any rulebook.you only learn them from getting blomkool ore ,i.o.w. on the field against live opnonents.

  • 80

  • 84

@smallies72 – Het julle onlangs gesien hoe lyk ou Balie nou? Hy is nou meer ‘n 250ml botteltjie as ‘n Balie!

  • 85

@Mieliepapmike – 71 I looked at it a 2nd time & it seemed to me that Genia’s tap was legitimate. It was academic anyway because FDP ripped the ball away.

  • 86

@tight head – 78 Right on Tighthead. Never a truer word spoken.

  • 87
