Hamilton – Springbok centre Jaque Fourie has been suspended for four weeks for a dangerous tackle during the All Blacks v South Africa Test at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, yesterday.
Fourie, represented by Aaron Lloyd, appeared before SANZAR Judicial Officer Paul Tully at a hearing held in Hamilton on Sunday after being cited by Citing Commissioner Scott Nowland for a dangerous tackle in breach of law 10.4 (i), on All Blacks player Ma’a Nonu in the 70th minute of the match.
In his defence, Fourie submitted that the lifting tackle was not intentional, but reckless, and was at the lower end of the sanction scale.
After viewing video evidence and hearing submissions, Mr Tully found that there was a reckless lifting tackle which was clearly dangerous and placed the player in a vulnerable position when he landed on his neck and shoulder.
Fourie has been suspended for four weeks up to, and including, 19 October 2009. The player indicated that for recovery reasons, he has no intention of playing on the weekend of the 19-20 September, and therefore the suspension commences from the weekend of 26-27 September 2009.

It is still not clear where Jaque Fourie will play his local rugby when he returns. The Lions feel their contract with him is rock solid while WP wants to expose any loopholes. There is also a French club claiming Fourie signed up to join them. However, Fourie made it clear that he wants to play his rugby in the Cape. The suspension means that Jaque Fourie will not take part in the Curry Cup campaign of either of the local teams unless they reach the final. And even then, it might be risk as he wasn’t involved for the 14 rounds before the final.
belaglik jan fourie is net nog n teiken
What?
Just watched it on youtube. Ok so a penalty, but 4 weeks? FFS that is pathetic.
Funny how there was no citing for Reid’s savage shoulder charge on Habana, ok we got a penalty, but is was far worse than Fourie’s tackle.
Incredible. Note to self find out bout toytoying lessons and how to rent a crowd.
Mossie was hard done by..and what about the shoulder charge on Habana??
Another thing I find strange:
“The player indicated that for recovery reasons, he has no intention of playing on the weekend of the 19-20 September, and therefore the suspension commences from the weekend of 26-27 September 2009.”
Why say that? Why not just take the banning and be available one week earlier? Now he gets an extra week. I dont understand.
@Supa Die Bloubul – cause he has issues with playing for the lions cause of the contract dispute. Its going to come back and bite him in the arse.
@K9-MonsterLeeu –
So he would rather not play rugby, than play for the Lions? They should stop paying him. Wonder if he will appeal?
Does anyone know wether Frans Steyn and JDV will play CC? Or are they off to Europe next week already?
@Supa Die Bloubul – soos ek verstaan gaan hulle reguit europa toe
@smallies72 –
Dankie
@K9-MonsterLeeu –
@trupisero –
Hy sal nie omgee nie, hy wil dan juis nie daar speel nie.
@Supa Die Bloubul –
@trupisero –
@smallies72 –
Minder ouens wil nou RAU koshuise toe gaan klink dit my.
Hands up who has a Tri-Nations Hangover?
Even a little one counts!!! 8)
@carol – does a cheetah babbelas count?
@smallies72 – I think on this occasion it does!! 🙂
I don’t have one, good job as I have to do something noisy now!!
See you.
