@Ex Player – Toe Mallet Valsbaai begin afrig het, het hy in ‘n game teen Gordonsbaai halftyd die agsteman vervang na hy sy moer gestrip het. Sy toks en klere langs die veld aangetrek en game klaar gespeel.

@Puma – My amphibious predator mate from KZN, how are you?

I won’t be online much tonight as I’m working my ass off developing a course I have to present next month and the work still to be done and the deadline are glaring at each other!

Please say hi to the crowd here if you spot them later

@SA Barbarians – LOL (amphibious predator from KZN) πŸ˜†

    You sound really busy.

Will tell all hello if they log on. Been waiting for everyone but not one has logged on for awhile yet.

@Pietman – 129 Amen to both observations. The long tours were great for all countries.

They were the best Jim. I miss those tours. Nothing like it now days. Even the mid-week games were great to watch.

Maybe why I enjoyed the Lions tour so much this year. We just don’t have tours anymore. Sad it has come to that. Even the Lions tour was rushed only 6 weeks here. They used to tour here for much longer. Still enjoyed them here.

Bring back the tours it would be brilliant.

@SA Barbarians -157 Fergie McCormick now that’s a name from the past. When touring the UK the ABs management made a decision to carry only one full back on the team. Fergie played every match as I recall on that tour, an incredible feat. Indestructible. I remember it well because that decision prevented our former team mate, Mick Williment, from touring. Bitter disappointment for all of us. But it takes nothing away from McCormick’s achievement.

@Puma – 251 Hi Puma. Yep those long tours were great for so many reasons, not least of which many players got the chance to play against the touring sides which they never would under normal circumstances. I remember when we played down in Wales their club sides, that had a fixture against the upcoming tourists, would be planning for that game 12-18 months ahead of time. We played one game & I asked them afterwards about their tactics that day, we lost, & the explanation was that they were going to play the same way against the tourists, a game that was scheduled 12 months later. They intended to rehearse their game for the rest of the season in preparation. It was a lifetiem experience for many of them. πŸ™‚
