It is with great pleasure that I misuse my posting right here to wish our friend GBS a very blessed day and I am sure we all wish him a very successful year ahead. Gooi maar n ou sletsappie as die boeing oor is!
@Puma –
He says on IOL he did speak/complain/write to Paddy O’Byrne, but that it is a waste of time talking to that lot.
I agree with PdeV on this one, stuff the IRB.
As a matter of fact, I don’t care much for this whole TriNations comp either, it is only messing up our CC comp and lining the pockets of the Antipodeon moguls.
Simple…… One may NOT challenge ineptitude by IRB appointed officials. Any such challenge will be construed as bringing the game under disrepute and severely penalised.
Having said that, the media may not have been the most appropriate channel to kick them in the nuts, even though it seems like the only one available, if one looks at Paddy’s snooty response to the Perth scrum debacle
Yes bring back the tours. Those were the days Piet. Nothing can beat long tours. Thats why I enjoyed the Lions tour here even if it was much shorter than tours used to be.
I support PdV here someone has to tell them. They wont like it though.
Yes our CC is depleted without our full strength teams. Sharks have 11 out to the Boks I think. Why Muller is there I have no idea he wont even make the bench. Should have been here to play for the Sharks.
@Puma –
How can a ref turn his back on the captain and wave him off like that?
John asked him a ligit question, that scrummie didn’t tap the ball properly….
We should be able to complain if we feel something is not right. How else can we get our voice heard? Makes me angry really that we cant put across what we feel is not right and they just ignore it.
His masters voice does not appreciate the intrusion of other voices. They are the same as politico’s – power crazy and will cover for each other every time
The 1955 Lions lost there opening match against W.Tvl, 6-3.
The 1960 Lions lost against E.Tvl.
The 1970 All Blacks lost against N.Tvl (a Joos le Roux penalty).
The 1976 All blacks lost against WP 12-11 (Chris Pope scoring two tries).
The 1964 All Blacks lost against a combined Boland/SWD/EP, 19-16 (Giepie Wentzel scoring 19 points!).
And the 1980 Lions lost against Tvl (can’t recall the score, but Schalk Naude did the damage with a penalty).
It was good for our provincial teams to play those touring sides, Chris Pope and many others would never have been Springboks for instance, if it wasn’t for those games.
@Pietman – What was also nice was that you got the blacks playing in a town like cradock against the old nec or in pietersburg against verre noord not just the loftus absa newlands sircus
@smallies72 –
Ja, was lekker daai!
As a kid I had “plakboeke” of every tour, every player. I could tell you every players name, position, club etc.
Listened on the radio, no TV those days, Saw my first test at Kings Park as a school boy sitting right on the touch line. Heard the Welsh captain swear when they lost a line out.
The only way Long Tours could ever work again, would be to have the same season for NH and SH… one global season…. with the same International window….
@SA Barbarians – My first real rugga experiance was the lions tour of 1980.i took my boy of 9 to the lions cheetah game and he still cant stop talking about it
119@Puma – Enmity !! (or is it Emnity)
Fokken jaloers…. ek seg vir jou, dis wat dit is !
And they simply do not understand our Funny Nation….. we’re not a Ja-Baas Nation…

I am a ‘long tour man’, like you.
@SA Barbarians – They will try the irb is mos the start and end of rugga they will end like the fia and bernie one day just u wait and see

The only way to keep the quiet is to keep on winning.
Then we need good refs too allow us to play as well. We were blown out of the park on Saturday. Barnes should never ref at international level again.

@SA Barbarians – Paddy’s snooty response, or Paddy’s snotty response… take your pick, but he remains a prick
@Puma –
They must schedule the thing better than the recent BL tour.
No use playing the local provincial teams without the Boks in there.
@SA Barbarians – 125

Sorry, 1962 Lions lost against E.Tvl (19-16), not the AB’s.
@SA Barbarians – 133
Agree there.
@Pietman – 135
Those were the days Piet. Wish somehow those tours could come back. Were the best.
Enjoyed the mid-week games as much as the tests.

Wonderful era, those tours
Cheers all have to go out for a hour or so. Back later.
@Pietman – 140
Grant Batty… cocky little guy that, but had a huge heart and a step and pace too on the wing
@SA Barbarians –
Same here, I knew them all, by heart.
@SA Barbarians –
En n moosa rooi snor!
Anyone young I can talk to? Its a GBS turns 110 thread and Pietman and SAB are talking about “their days” back in the 17th century 😉
@smallies72 – 139
Before I go out. Yes that really what made those tours brilliant.
Okay back later. Cheers all.
Happy birfday oom groot blou!
