After hitting a car while driving under the influence of alcohol and then being accused of violent behaviour from an ensuing fight, New Zealand scrumhalf Byron Kelleher will appear in a French court

According to the Toulouse deputy prosecutor Richard Bometon,  the Toulouse player had admitted both charges.

Bometon said: “He will plead guilty. The maximum penalty is a suspended jail sentence, but this case is not a very serious one.”

Kelleher will appear in court on 28 October.

Last week, Kelleher was briefly held in custody after hitting a car and getting into a fight with its driver after attempting to escape.

People near the scene then joined in the brawl. Kelleher picked up a minor shoulder injury and facial bruises in the scuffle.

Kelleher, who joined Toulouse in 2007 and won the French league title the following year, played 57 tests between 1999 and 2007 for the All Blacks.
