The Bulls will back their Springboks to do the job for them on Saturday against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versveld.
Coach Frans Ludeke, has included Victor Matfield, Pierre Spies, Morne Steyn and Danie Rosssouw in his starting XV for Saturday’s make-or-break clash.
Matfield also takes over the captaincy from Dewald Potgieter.
More interesting news is that Frans Ludeke has anounced that Derick Kuun will move back to openside flank in 2010. Does that mean the rumour about Gary Botha returning to South Africa is true?
Ross Geldenhuys, who has been drafted from the Lions, gets a place on the bench.
Captain Victor Matfield had this to say:
“It has been quite a while since we have been the outright winners of the Currie Cup and therefore the next couple of weeks are going to be a huge challenge.
“There is a great vibe in the squad and it is nice to know that reaching the semi-finals is still in our own hands, but we all know that we need to be at our utmost best in the weeks to come.
“Every single player in the squad needs to be focussed on the job at hand and I look forward to a very tough game against the Cheetahs.
“With a number of Bulls in their team they know exactly how we want to play and apart from that, local derbies are always as tough as it gets.”
Vodacom Blue Bulls Team:

@superBul – 29 WI got 134 not sure how many were out. Will check. Have not watched it much only just a bit.
A braai marathon? Now that sounds awesome…haha.
@Karen – 24
Hello Karen, How you keeping?
chat later weer as ek nie omval nie
32 @Puma – Hallo my Sharks friend I am fine as always and you?
@superBul – 29
Paki are 35/2 need 99 to win.
WI were 134 all out on 34 overs. Just had a look.
Oops geez I don’t want to even think of cricket after last nights fiasco arghhhh
@Karen – 34
Very well but would be even better if the weather was good. Rain here for two days now.
@Karen – 36
Yes we were awful. Think if we batted first it could have been different. We won the toss too. Why GS wanted to bowl first have no idea. In a day/night game there I think you should always bat first.
Then the WI have batted first and were all out for 134 then they are facing Paki. Who I think may be favourites to win this tourney.
What boggels the mind is that they have not played competitive cricket for a few months and then they want to take on the big boys in this tournament – only in SA
@Karen – agree thats were the problems started
@Karen – 39
Yes, probably should have had a few warm up games. We looked very rusty. Especially our bowling.
GS batting was great though. Just knew once he went that was it. He was keeping up the run rate at that time. Then it all just fell away.
40 @Journo-Lion – Dis great man solank jy jouself geniet
Well Superbul and Puma the other teams all played big games before now but our guys were chilling and going on a diet bla bla bla
@Karen – 44
Yes must admit that GS and Kallis have shed some kilos. BUT we needed game time. Maybe this first game will get us back into it. Hoping. We face NZ and then England. Two tough games. NZ are not that bad in the odi’s or England. We need to get it together real quick.
Well I hope so Puma because otherwise it is going to be a major embarrassment for us
@Karen – 46
I hope so too. We have really good players just maybe not game ready at the moment. I would not have selected Amla for this odi tourney. Especially not to open. We should have had Gibbs there. He is better at the odi game than Amla is. Amla more suited to test cricket.
I agree but is Gibbs up to standard – I hope so. We just need to get our arses back into gear and start winning again.
@Karen – 48
Think Gibbs would be a better choice at the moment to open with. Amla was out on 10 yesterday. GS was going like a jet..haha. Gibbs was sitting out saw him in the players box.
Nothing to lose to start with Gibbs if Amla not getting the runs to open. Now I say that just watch he will be superb in the next game…hehe.
Hallo GBS/Ed, ek sien by die lys van “most active commenters” dat sekere ouens se name twee keer verskyn, met twee getalle. Is daar iemand wat my ‘nick’ gesteel het ? 😉
@bdb – Haha.
Nee man, ek net gedog ek is bietjie clever.
Arme ou Bulletjies…they’re simply kak without a handful of their Bok players.
The mighty Cheetahs will just have to klap this Bok laden Bull side.
@Loosehead – 56
57@superBul – Dit gaan ;n moerse game wees. My hart se ons gaan wen maar teen so veel kwaliteit Bokke eb Bulle gaan dit baie mooelik wees.
@Loosehead – nee man think posetive thoughts when we are on song the buls will have to be at their very best
