The Bulls will back their Springboks to do the job for them on Saturday against the Cheetahs at Loftus Versveld.
Coach Frans Ludeke, has included Victor Matfield, Pierre Spies, Morne Steyn and Danie Rosssouw in his starting XV for Saturday’s make-or-break clash.
Matfield also takes over the captaincy from Dewald Potgieter.
More interesting news is that Frans Ludeke has anounced that Derick Kuun will move back to openside flank in 2010. Does that mean the rumour about Gary Botha returning to South Africa is true?
Ross Geldenhuys, who has been drafted from the Lions, gets a place on the bench.
Captain Victor Matfield had this to say:
“It has been quite a while since we have been the outright winners of the Currie Cup and therefore the next couple of weeks are going to be a huge challenge.
“There is a great vibe in the squad and it is nice to know that reaching the semi-finals is still in our own hands, but we all know that we need to be at our utmost best in the weeks to come.
“Every single player in the squad needs to be focussed on the job at hand and I look forward to a very tough game against the Cheetahs.
“With a number of Bulls in their team they know exactly how we want to play and apart from that, local derbies are always as tough as it gets.”
Vodacom Blue Bulls Team:
Zane Kirchner; Gerhard van den Heever, Jaco Pretorius, Wynand Olivier, Francois Hougaard; Morne Steyn, Heini Adams; Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, Victor Matfield (captain), Danie Rossouw, Werner Kruger, Derick Kuun, Gurthro Steenkamp. Reserves: Chiliboy Ralepelle, Ross Geldenhuys, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Pedrie Wannenburg, Dean Greyling, Francois Brummer, John Mametsa.
I would have started with:
Vodacom Blue Bulls: Zane Kirchner, Gerhard van den Heever, Francois Hougaard, Wynand Olivier, John Mametsa, Morne Steyn, Heini Adams; Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, Victor Matfield (captain), Danie Rossouw, Werner Kruger, Chiliboy Ralepelle , Gurthro Steenkamp.
Reserves: Derick Kuun, Ross Geldenhuys, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Flip vd Merve, Dean Greyling, Francois Brummer, Jaco Pretorius, Wynie Strydom.
Reason why: Chilliboy is stronger and hungry to play and has shown maturity since coming back from the Boks. Hougaard is wasted on the wing and he is the x facture the Bulls need at 13. Last 20min of the game he can be moved to 9 and Jaco can come on as an impact player at 13. Mametsa is the Bulls best option while Akona is out and looking at his c/c record he knows how to score. Kuun is the Bulls best impact player, use him in the last 30min in the loose trio and you will see how he upsets the opposition. Flip over P3, P3 needs to get fit and work on his ball skills first. Flip is the monster the Bull have been waiting for, plays with his heart, he is going to be a grate legend. Added Oom Wyn’s for experince and leadership.
Score for Saturday: 35 – 16 to the BULLS!!!

@smallies72 – @superBul –
