The Lions are in a must win situation. They only have themselves to blame as the threw away a good first half lead against the Bulls at Loftus, lost a game against Griekwas at Coke Park, and after dominating position and territory for 80 minutes against the Sharks, they went down wanting.

The Lions managed to get a few bonus points on the road against strong unions, but never looked like a team that can take control of the games. A missed tackle by Earl Rose gave Western Province a win at Newlands. In Bloemfontein the Lions might have lost by only four points, but they were always chasing the score.I don’t believe the Lions have the firepower to beat Griekwas this weekend. Neither one of the teams will benefit from returning Springboks so the playing field is level. If the Lions struggle in the front row like they did against the Leopards, Jano Vermaak and Willem Alberts is going to have a very tough day on the field.

If Griekwas wins this one, they are very well placed for a semi final. This will put extra pressure on the Blue Bulls and Cheetahs. After last weekends success against Boland, their spirits will be lifted and they will be well prepared for a below average Lions team.Let’s hope that the wheels will start turning for this Lions side. They owe this to us, their faithfull supporters and to themselves. Self belief is something I have always prided myself on, maybe its time for the Lions team to do the same.
