Argentina has been invited by Sanzar to join the 3 Tri-Nations Teams in a new Four Nations format, from 2012.

There are however 2 conditions attached, namely that Argentina will have to play their best players (a lot of Argentinian players are duty bound inFrance and the UK) AND the Financial Model for participation must still be agreed upon.

In the new Format, the Four Teams will play each other both home and away, resulting in every Team playing 6 matches. In 2012 the Tournament will start in Mid-August (just after conclusion of the Super 15) and end nine weeks later, in Mid-October.

In a World Cup year, a shortened version will be played, in July and August.

Augustine Pichot, former Argentinian captain and member of the FOUR NATIONS PROJECT team was overjoyed and said:

“I can’t express the joy of myself and the team that has been working on this project to get to this point. We are delighted to have the chance to become a great rugby nation and to play in top-level international rugby and we are committed to working with Sanzar to meet the conditions.”

“This exciting development will be vital to grow the game in Argentina. This is historic and everyone in Argentina should be proud.”

Andy Marinos, Acting MD of SA Rugby also expressed his approval and stated that the Tournament will then truly become a Southern Hemisphere championship.

100% maiki, wys jou net hoe oulik is ons hehehehehe

Good news, but will they manage to get all their best players available from France?!

  • 4

More rugby? A S14 and another team in the 3N? This can only work if the Argies play their home games in SA. Make the Aussies and Kiwi’s spend another week or 2 in SA.

    @Supa Die Bloubul – 3

It is very good news only if they do get their best players to play. Would add to the competition. Lots of travel though for the players but it will be worth it to have another team in. 4 Nations then sounds great to me. Pity it could not happen from next year.

    Hi folks,

Great decision this and I’m very happy for the Argies.

It would also mean that the broadened Tri-Nations would start after the completion of the NH season to ensure that the best Argie players are available, not so?

DMaybe this will help some Argie’s playing Currie Cup for less money – than moving to France.

  • 21

    #20 Ex player

I agree they can come over and play CC. The only problem is how do we prevent the Sharks from snapping them all up? πŸ˜‰

  • 22

@fender – Hahahaha – Trues bob! But if they have class – the Bulls and Lions is out of the question – hahaha.
But with the extra cash boost from the TV rights – they might be able to subsidise the players sallaries – and give them national contracts – which insist that they must play all SANZAR test matches.

  • 23

21@fender – We don’t stop the Sharks, we just buy all the Cheetahs players they suddenly do not want anymore…. hehehe
