Vodacom Western Province suffered a setback when one of their attacking kingpins, Gio Aplon, was ruled out for two weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in the victory over Griquas at Newlands on Saturday.

According to the Western Province Website, coach Allister Coetzee said Aplon´s injury was not serious, but the nippy wing/fullback went for a medical examination which showed the damage was more severe than initially thought. Fortunately for WP they still have  big Fijian wing Sereli Naqelevuki to fall back onto for Saturday’s game against the Boland Kavaliers at Newlands. Sereli was out for almost a month due to injury but made his return as a substitute against Griquas.

Springbok lock Andries Bekker should be back to face the Boland Kavaliers this Saturday but flank Schalk Burger is still not ready. Coetzee said it may be another two weeks before  Burger makes his return from injury. “Dries will hopefully be back this week. He trained last week Thursday and Friday and he´s been in the gym. The shoulder is shower real signs of recovery,” said the coach.

 Centre Juan de Jongh and the halfback pairing of Dewaldt Duvenage and Peter Grant might be give a break for this Satudays match against Boland. In that case Australian recruit Matt Toomua could start at flyhalf with Conrad Hofmann as backup.

The Vodacom Western Province team for this weekend’s match will be announced tomorrow after practise.

    @AB – Jis AB

    WP ondersteuners oor die lengte en breedte van die land stel beslis belang sou ek sê. ‘n Paar opposisie verdedigings lyne sal ook belangstel IMO 🙂

    @SA Barbarians
    Het jy gesien hoe try daai groot vleuel van die Kwas vir Aplon target, net om elke keer platgetrek te word. As hy en Joe P net elkeen so 5kg kan optel sonder om spoed te verloor gaan hulle nog gevaarliker raak.

    @SA Barbarians – :laugh: Ja jy is seker reg ou maat,gelukkig val ek nie in daai kategorie nie!

    Het julle agtergekom dat daar tans maklik 20 goeie vleuels in SA is , wel as jy so na al die aanprysings van die manne luister. Maar net een is uitstaande n Springbok tans, BH.

    Ons raak maar so as die Curriebeker koors hoog loop, elke jaar dieselfde storie.
    Maar Mapoe en Bom Samaai is vir my die wat die meeste kere goed gespeel het.

    Question for the WP supporters: Why the hells Fiji still playing for WP? Surely the coaches have realised that he is lazy and mediocre? Is there really no-one better than him in WP who can replace Aplon?
