The Springboks completed a 2009 Tri-Nations WHITE-WASH over the All Blacks and claimed the Tri-Nations title for 2009 by beating their rivals 32 / 29 in a thrilling match which went right to the wire.
The All Blacks clearly showed their intentions early on that they wanted to run the ball at the Bokke and initially they had good field position.
Frans Steyn kicked a monster penalty, from his own 10m line to open the scoring, then added another huge one. He later added a third monster penalty conversion.
Dan Carter pulled the score back repeatedly converting some dodgy penalties into points.
Morne Steyn was equally on song with the boot, calmly slotting a drop goal, 2 penalties and 2 conversions… for his 100% kicking record for the day.
The Springboks scored 2 tries, one through Fourie du Preez, the undoubted BEST RUGBY PLAYER IN THE WORLD, and an intercept try by Jean De Villiers.
The All Blacks also scored 2 tries, one through Sivivatu and one through captain Richie MacCaw.
The game was won up front again, with the Springboks reigning supreme in the line-outs and getting parity in the scrums (with the Bokke absolutely monstering one All Black scrum).
On the deck, the combination between Schalk Burger and Heinrich Brussouw worked almost flawlessly, one complimenting the other.
At the back of the scrum, Pierre Spies had mixed fortunes… battling to pick up ball behind the scrum but putting in some very special tackles.
At the half time break, the Springboks were up 22 / 12.
In the second half the All Blacks gave their all, clawing their way back slowly but surely and when they scored through MacCaw with a couple of minutes to go, it was nail biting stuff.
They nearly scored with time up, but the Springboks held fast to record en epic win.
When Schalk Burger went off injured and Bakkies was subbed, one could again see that it affected the Bokke. In comparison, the All Blacks subs provided more impetus to their game.
The Bokke coaching staff replaced Fourie Du Preez with Ricky Januarie, near the end and also brought on Adi Jacobs, Jannie du Plessis and Chilliboy Ralapele.
It was like ice in the Bokke boots, our hearts in our throats, when these needless substitutions were made and ultimately nearly cost the Springboks the game.
When will the Bokke management ever learn that you do not HAVE TO make substitutions for the sake of substitutions. Why fix something that is NOT BROKEN ?
With this important win, the Bokke took the Freedom Cup and the Tri-Nations trophies.
Next week we see the All Blacks take on the Wallabies in the last Tri-Nations match of 2009,it having been reduced to a dead rubber, with the only thing at stake to see who ends SECOND and who ends LAST in ths year’s Tri-Nations.
Well done Bokke !

Hoop maar daar is nog so bietjie vorm oor in WO se game. Het darem lanklaas rugby gespeel.
382@superBul – Nigel Owens was pateties.
@carol –
Hiya Carol,
No, will have to celebrate on my own. Neighbours in the flats think I’m insane I’m sure. More noise than their kids 🙂
@OCO –
Do you have some homebrew there to celebrate with?
It is Ramadan over there, not?
So I guess a cold Castle is out of order?
BOKBEFOK!!!!!!!!
@OCO –
Well, FDP was named MOTM, so someone agrees with me!! hehe
Im very well, enjoying thos victory, just hope the Bulls make me proud as well!
Ja, agree, Chilli has like 8 test caps and played about 10min in total!
@Pietman – “The moment Schalk and Bakkies left, we were in deep kuk” , ek het gevoel die ABs het toe al reeds die oorhand gehad en ons verdediging het ons gered.
@Supa Die Bloubul – they should add the mins played and 80mins = one cap!!
362@carol –
yes, i forgot about that
we now have won twice in nz in the last 3 games!!
in fact … its 2 in a row, isnt it?
PDV must keep this team as it is. Just bring JPP back. This team is great! Pick Steyn at 15 even if he is overseas.
@superBul –
I think Spies is strong and big enought to make lock. He takes his fair share of line-out ball too (considering Victor is the main target).
As mentioned, I don’t think he’s a #8 as FS is not a #10 (must be #12 or #15).
Great athlete but I think he’s misplaced where he is.
But then again, what do I know of 38 skill set? Just watching and commentating on where I see problems. Not being negative just think think we have enough international class players to dominate world rugby with disdain 🙂
@OCO – 394 – Hahahahah….I liked your sectet drinks cabinet mail btw!
400@Ashley –
anyone know when last we won 3 tests in a row against the ab?
come-on pieta, i know you can tell me
i’m waaaaaay to lazy to go and check!!
Morne Steyn and Brussouw has added to this great Bok team this season.
Morne had an unbelievable season. Won the s14, won the Lions series with a great kick, quickest Bok to 100 points, most points in a tri-nations ever!

Sodra jy met Naas se stelling gisteraand saamstem dat Earl Rose n goeie speler is.
@Supa Die Bloubul –
@superBul –
O, daai….
Supa @398
401@Supa Die Bloubul –
i would really be tempted to bring back fsteyn and jdevillers!!
fsteyn was awesome today! hope this end the debate of where he should play!!
@Ashley –
1949

@Pietman –
Hi Pieta,
I’m alone in my flat so no ‘prying eyes’
Yes, it’s Ramadan short working hours ‘an all’.
We get a long weekend next week of 5 days for Eid.
Enjoy the game?
@K9-MonsterLeeu – 389 Unforgivable, I know….congratulations on your Lions win.
Now if I have got this right, the WP Match is at 2pm our time and the Bulls v Sharks at 4.05pm.
Will try to pop back if I’m about…..

405@superBul –

@smallies72 – vandag
Enjoy your win all and have a great day…..xx
405@Supa Die Bloubul –
yep, he’s quite a find
which brings me to
irb player of the year? yes, it might be a suprise (for some) but
it will be deserved!!
on the other hand … heart hope that fdupreez will get the honour!!
407@Pietman –
Stem. Ons starting line-up is elke week goed. Dis net die bench.
@Ashley – 1970 and ’76 as well, also in ’86.
Though not in a row…they always won the 2nd tests.
WELL DONE BOKKE. TRI-NATIONS CHAMPS……BRILLIANT.
World Champs, Beat the B. and Irish Lions now Tri-Nations champs. Also number ONE IN THE WORLD. Does not get better than this.
