Although Johann Muller has been cleared to start for the Sharks against Griquas this weekend, fullback Stefan Terblanche will continue to lead the team. Argentinian flyhalf Juan Hernández has not yet recovered from an ankle injury picked up two weeks ago.

The side shows a number of changes to the team that beat the Lions last week, most caused by the withdrawal of the Tri-Nations Boks. Wiehahn Herbst starts at tighthead prop, with Pat Cilliers and Deon Carstens bracketed at loosehead prop. Both players are struggling with injury and whichever is deemed “less crocked” on Saturday morning will start in the number 1 jersey. Muller is back to partner Steven Sykes in the second row, while Keegan Daniel takes over from Ryan Kankowski at number 8.

Last week’s halfbacks, Charl McLeod and Monty Dumond have been retained, while Andries Strauss moves into the number 12 jersey in place of the injured Riaan Swanepoel. Waylon Murray gets a long-awaited start at outside centre, with Chris Jordaan replacing Springbok Odwa Ndungane at right wing.

Justin Downey comes onto the bench as loose forward cover this week, while another youngster, 19 year-old fullback Patrick Lambie will also get a chance to impress off the bench. There’s a slight chance that Rory Kockott might be fit to occupy the number 20 jersey, but if this is not the case, the Cronjé twins will again both be on the bench.

Sharks v Griquas
15 Stefan Terblanche (capt), 14 Chris Jordaan, 13 Waylon Murray, 12 Andries Strauss, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Monty Dumond, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Keegan Daniel, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Johann Muller, 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Wiehahn Herbst, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Deon Carstens/Pat Cilliers
16 Skipper Badenhorst, 17 Pat Cilliers/Deon Carstens, 18 Albert van den Berg, 19 Justin Downey, 20 Ross Cronjé/Rory Kockott, 21 Guy Cronjé, 22 Patrick Lambie (*)

    Muller isn’t a great captain in any case.

    I really admire Griquas’ progress this year, they are doing exceptionally well for such a small union.
    But Durban is just one step too far for them, Sharks are going to put them away, I reckon.

    4 @Loosehead Did not think so either but for some reason he is seen as a great leader…maybe he is!

    Pete, think so too. Very tough road ahead of them the next few weeks and if they not careful they may even end up outside the top four in double quick time.

    Hello Loosie.
    I say you have made contact with KP and Barbarian, wish I could join you boys for a beer.
    Will hopefully do so soon.
    I see they are meeting this afternoon, are you going?

    @Loosehead

    I still don’t know why Jake thought he was a Springbok captain, even for the ‘2nd team’.
    Strangely enough, both he and Stefan are from the same hometown (Mosselbay), although Stefan grew up in Swellendam mostly.

    @Koos
    Muller has not impressed with his general play either, at CC level he is good enough, but not good enough to be a Bok.

    @Loosehead
    No worries, they are both just around the corner from you, so there is always a next time.
    My rugby schedule is also a bit messed up this weekend, I have places to meet and people to meet come game time tomorrow.

    Yes, spoke to my mother this morning, cold and snowy at their place also in the Overberg.
    But I see Newlands has a ‘fair’ prediction for tomorrow.

    Hiho everyone, i agree Muller does not seem a great or even good captain and think Griqua’s could win they have a lot of mongrel and determination and there ball handleing skills seem very good or am i imagining that.

    oh lovely stuff i have this tread to myself and can give all my views and none to argue with me. So my view is this,i havnt felt confident in the Sharks play for a long time and do think that The baby pastel blues might have a few more better players than us BUT I think we do well because we are well trained with a good coach. The hubby thinks i am wrong,but we have something missing. Anyone that knows what they are talking about please explain what is missing from the Sharks
