Is Brian Habana werkilik ‘n Blou Bul? Is broers Du Plessis werklik Sharks?
Antwoord is eenvoudig. Emosies.
Spelers verander kleure gereeld.

Known as the tournament where future rugby stars are unearthed, the Coca Cola Craven Week which starts in East London this Monday is expected to attract lots of attention from enthusiasts and talent scouts alike. From next week East London will be abuzz as former springboks and provincial players all converge on the city with the expectation of seeing on display some exciting and promis ing talent.
Some players can expect to be lured by the most ambitious unions who will then include them in their academies and make their further development a priority.
Though more hard work is needed, being at a top academy paves the way towards a professional career for any aspirant player. Testament to this is the fact that most in the current world conquering Springbok team were discovered at past Craven Week tournaments. Thus the tournament has become a highlight on the annual calendar of any union worth its salt.
On the union’s side, the off chance that they might just discover and nurture the “next big thing’’ is just too alluring to ignore.
For those lucky enough to be spotted and approached with contracts, there comes the opportunity to benefit from some of the best coaching and education money can buy.
Wealthy or bigger unions like Western Province, Kwa-Zulu Natal Sharks, Free State Cheetahs, Golden Lions and the Blue Bulls are known to have scouts looking out for talent to bolster their already strong academies.
The perception is that they will be looking to provide exceptional performers from the smaller, less financially strong, a path to the big time.
But speaking to the Dispatch this week, Western Province manager of schools rugby, Theo Kleynhans, offered another view on the matter.
Whilst many scouts will indeed be looking for talented school boy players, for stronger unions it is a continual battle to keep their current crop away from the clutches of their coun terparts.
With players from pedigree schools like Paarl Gym, Bishops, Rondebosch Boys’ High, and South African College School (Sacs), Western Province is a pace setter when it comes to schoolboy rugby.
Is Pieter Rossouw en Louis Koen Bulle?
@K9-MonsterLeeu –
Ek hoor jou.
Sorry, bedoel Vlokkie.
@isigidi –
Nie in my oe nie. Oorspronklike WP.
@K9-MonsterLeeu –
Meesal Vrystaatse en Gautengse matrikulante as ek so vinnig kyk, hier en daar n los een van die Kaap en SWD.
@isigidi –
Noem hulle maar net “laat bekeerdes”!
@Supa Die Bloubul – 29, maar ek wed jou hy sou graag n BUL wou wees.
@isigidi –
@superBul –
hehe- almal wil n bul wees.
Is Pietman ‘n Bul of WP? 🙂
@Supa Die Bloubul –
Dielfde met JPP, WP Cravens, en Earl natuurlik (alhoewel hy by die Lions so moesa ontwikkel het in n Tiger Woods…. !
@Pietman –
Nog n interessant punt. Wikus van Heerden was jare n leeu, maar het een jaar by die Bulls aangesluit toe hy nie die Cats squad haal nie. Toe word hy Springbok! Toe gaan hy weer terug Leeus toe.
As iemand my moes vra: Wat was Wikus, n Bul of n Leeu?
Good article: I think that we should look at where the player made a name for himself as a rugby player.
Take Duanne Vermeulen, the Freestate bought him as a bit of a nobody and he made his name playing for them. WP then poached him. To me that makes him a Freestater.
Then take Joe Van Niekerk, he made his name at the Lions nd then fafded away at the WP. To me he is a Lions player. Same story with Schalk Britz.
AJ Venter, Freestate, Lions, Sharks where he made his name and then faded away at the WP.
@isigidi –
@isigidi – 😆
@Loosehead –
Loosie
Did you read my post to you, on the long thread, about WPRU academy.
Check please, and see if you can help.
@Supa Die Bloubul –
gedog Wikus was eers n Bul?
@isigidi –
@Pietman –
Nee wag, Supa is reg, Waterkloof..
@K9-MonsterLeeu –
@Pietman – Will do. Is it on the All Blacks volitile thread?
@Loosehead –
Excatly. Put that bring the question: When does he make his name? At CC level?
Duane Vermeulen was born in Nelspruit i think. Then he played at the Lions while studying, the the Pumas bought him and he played there. The Rassie saw him and bought him for the Cheetahs and now he is at WP.
I see him him as a Cheetah. That where he made his name at a big unionat CC level.
So Wickus is n Leeu, JS n Shark, Heinie n Bul, Julies n Leeu en Lobberts/Hottie Louw WP.
@bdb – 10 000 –
Wanneer tel iets as n wedstryd? Craven week? 0/19? CC?
@Supa Die Bloubul – 😆
