Sharks coach John Plumtree, happy with his team’s performance after they moved to the top of the Currie Cup standings by outclassing Griquas 41-6 at the weekend, is determined to make amends for his team’s First Round loss to Western Province.

The victory over Griquas, who topped the table through the first six weeks, ensured that the defending champion Sharks reached the halfway stage of the competition three points clear of their nearest rivals – Western Province.

The Sharks, on 27, head of a chasing bunch of WP, Griquas and the Blue Bulls – all on 24 points.

And the Durban outfit can put some space between them and Province when the two sides meet in a top-of-the-table clash in Durban this coming Saturday.

“I think after our first game defeat to Western Province in the competition, the guys have really worked well together as a team and have quickly built up some useful rhythm which will hopefully count in increase as the Currie Cup continues,” Plumtree said after team’s win over Griquas.

“But we are happy with where we are at at the moment and what we’ve achieved thus far.

“There’s not going to be too many easy games in this competition and I still believe any side can almost beat the other.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a better start to the second half [of the season] and after going down to Province in our first game at Newlands, we now have the chance to get one over them in Durban in our next game.”

Plumtree’s team ran in five tries against Griquas, thanks to scores from centre Waylon Murray, scrumhalf Charl McLeod, flyhalf Monty Dumond, wing Lwazi Mvovo and flank Keegan Daniel.

Dumond converted all five tries and also kicked two penalties to end the match with a personal haul of 21 points.

@Ed_the_Lion – Eish, dink nie so nie.

Hoor my lied, sê oom Grys Costume mos ook.

  • 63

Sooooooooooo it’s WP and Sharks this weekend in the Tsjark Tank. I wonder I wonder.
Will definately not be similar to prvious game earlier this year.
Being the loyal WP supporter I am, I reckon WP has to much grunt for the guppies. WP had there bad game for the season against the Lions last Saturday.

Sharks are in the way of the WP backlash.

  • 64

63 @isigidi – goed, gee goeie rugby redes waarom jy dink die wp gaan die sharks wen ?

  • 65

  • 67

@bdb – Nee ouboet, daai strik val ek nie voor nie. Elke goeie argument , het net so goeie teen argument. Dis een van daai games.

  • 68

@isigidi – as ek realisties is, dan dink ek die log gaan so lyk na 14 rondtes:

    Sharks
    WP
    Bulle
    Cheetahs

@bdb – Gaan eintlik daaroor of Bulls en Sharks mekaar gaan kry in Semis. Maw

    1 Bulls/Sharks
    2
    3
    4 Sharks/Bulls

    Of dan

    1
    2 Bulls/Sharks
    3 Bulls/Sharks
    4

The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd received an email from Mr Bernie Habana on Friday saying that Bryan Habana has not accepted the offer that was made to him by the Blue Bulls.
The CEO of the Blue Bulls Company, Barend van Graan, received an email from Mr Habana on Monday which said that Bryan Habana has received and accepted an offer from the Western Province.

Please note that at this stage we can’t say anything more and we will keep you up to date with the latest developments.

Ok the question for this week: how to resolve the Burger vs Brussow dilemma? No prizes for an answer.

  • 75

@JimT – What dilemma? Brussow plays, Burger subs and Danie subs Bakkies, imagine the moment Bakkies leaves the field the demolition squad comes up,then they have 2 to handle.

  • 76

What happened to my name and surname?
    It was there, promise.
    Now I get a mail……?

  • 77

@superBul – Agree super. Remember that Burger was ou with injury for a long time before he got banned.
I would have loved to see Burger play CC first before being elivated to higher honours.

Therefor I agree. Burger and Rossouw to come off the bench. Like you say, quit a demolision team we have there.

  • 78

    @bul-a-bhloo – hehehehehe. 😆

  • 79

    @isigidi – you’ve got mail.

  • 80

    @superBul – Superbul, now that’s a sensible answer, except I wouldn’t let Burger sub. he’s too “thick”. 🙂

  • 81

    @Ed_the_Lion – Got it thanks. 😎

  • 82

@JimT – Thick what way? Ricky January thick or Bakkies Botha thick?

  • 83

Dublin – South Africa’s rugby team has been found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute and fined for protesting Bakkies Botha’s suspension by wearing armbands during the third Lions test.

The punishment, which included a £1 000 fine for team captain John Smit and £10 000 (around R127 000) for the South African Rugby Union, was announced on Monday by the International Rugby Board.

The charges stem from the Springboks decision to wear armbands in the third Test against the British and Irish Lions on July 4 marked with the words “Justice 4 Bakkies” to protest the two-week suspension for lock forward Botha.

Botha was cited for a challenge on Lions prop Adam Jones which left the Welshman with a dislocated shoulder during the Springboks’ 28-25 victory at Pretoria in the second Test.

  • 85

Oh en howzit people and inhabitants from the north

  • 86

    @Loserer – Money well spent.

Refs will think twice about pinging Bakkies now.

  • 87

@Loserer – Why are the Boks fined with Pounds and not Euro’s? Being in Dublin and all.

  • 88

@Loserer – Don’t tell me. SARU will apeal and let off on a suspended sentence.
This whole thing should never have happened. Don’t understand why SA should be the one used to set an example. Burger in WC and now Bakkies. Few games later and much worse incidents.
    An absolute disgrace.

  • 89

  • 90
