The Vodacom Blue Bulls coach Frans Ludeke has selected Dewald Potgieter at number 8 for Saturday’s clash against the Griquas in Kimberley.
The flamboyant Potgieter has made a full recovery following his wrist injury and takes the place of Pedrie Wannenburg who will be used as an impact player.
Ludeke said at the weekly press conference which as held at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday that Potgieter’s presence is vital for the Blue Bulls and he surely will have a huge impact on the game come Saturday.
“Dewald is back from injury and will perform very important work for us as a ball carrier and defender.
“He is one of those players who are in the opposition’s face for 80 minutes and his skills at the breakdown will be much needed against the Griquas.
“Pedrie on the other hand, who did play for a few weeks, was a bit rusty against the Cheetahs, but he will be used as an impact player and is very effective in this role in the last 30 minutes. He is one of our seasoned campaigners and knows exactly how to play winning rugby.”
Other changes see Gurthrö Steenkamp in the front row at the side of Derick Kuün and Werner Kruger with Springbok Chiliboy Ralepelle playing off the bench.
Amongst the backs Francois Hougaard starts at scrumhalf replacing Heini Adams and Tiger Mangweni will again be used at fullback with Zane Kirchner beside Wannenburg and Ralepelle on the bench.
Adams injured his ankle against the Free State Cheetahs and will be on the sideline for at least one week.
Vodacom Blue Bulls: Tiger Mangweni; Gerhard van den Heever, Jaco Pretorius, Stefan Watermeyer, Marius Delport; Francois Brummer, Francois Hougaard; Dewald Potgieter, Jacques Burger, Deon Stegmann, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Derick Kuün (c), Gurthrö Steenkamp. Reserves: Chiliboy Ralepelle, Frik Kirsten, Fudge Mabeta, Pedrie Wannenburg, Ruan Snyman, Burton Francis, Zane Kirchner.

Bulls must take note of this-
With former Scotland international Matthew Proudfoot now installed as the full-time WP forwards coach, the progress made by the WP big men has gathered momentum. In the two defeats that WP have suffered, to the Blue Bulls and to Griquas, the Province big men dominated their opponents even in a losing cause.
Tries from forward drives, or rolling mauls, are starting to become common place for WP, while the scrum with Wicus Blaauw starting to come into his own on the loosehead, has also become a strength again.
